    Opinions welcome...

Basically a toe to toe melee trap monkey that maintains agro and can self heal between fights with the use of wands.

This is with no tomes or gear (hence the Bare Bones part) and could be used while server hopping or starting from scratch. The skill distribution should allow for good solo-ability while completing optional objectives with ease for loot runs, favor grinds, etc.

I believe in mind over matter. If I don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Rogue levels but no UMD? A wizard level is a waste on a melee build like this you can self heal with wand AND reconstruct scrolls if you put points into UMD.

Strange I thought the levels of barbarian would do quite nicely for overalll melee capabilities, rage buffs, faster movement and extra hit points from the toughness enhancement lines and feats would be useful.

The rogue is more for finding hidden doors, disabling traps, opening locks not to mention the added bonus to damage for anything that 'qualifies' as a sneak attack. No he's not a sneaky sneaky type rogue and end game he may not be able to get every trap but it should be handy on the way up, especially when running solo.

A single level on Wizard allows me to use wands & scrolls without a UMD check if you would really like to get down to the brass tacks of that matter. This gave me extra skill points that allowed me to max my disable device skill (hmmm strange how that works). I can use scrolls of whatever collective level my character is without a UMD check or a wand for that matter. Which grants me access to a lot more spells thatn repair light damage and 'limited' wands.

No I did not take any of the 'usual' combat feats (cleave, greater cleave, spring attack, etc) When playing multiclass to this degree they are other feats that are more neneficial than a timer waiting to refresh.

With the addition of appropraite tomes and gear this can be a very viable character IMO. But even without it them it should be able to hold its own.

But you are more than welcome to make a suggestion if you have something useful to say.

Several things should be adjusted, currently the character has some serious flaws.
Not in the magnitude of unplayable or being a burden to the party, but things that can clearly be done in a better way.

    Feats:

Mithril Body - switch it out around level 9. Didch AC completly there, you wont be able to keep AC in a working range, so resources you invest into AC will be wasted.

2nd Thoughness taken: really bade return on investment. Take another feat. Options are IC:Slashing or Stunning Blow.

Nimble Fingers - unnecessary, if you really have problems with traps in the lower midlevels, keep it untill around level 9 for Power Attack. With a base INT of 14 you will be perfectly fine with regards to traps if you have a INT item to wear and a good skill item to wear when disabling traps. If the box is disarmed, switch back to combat gear. Invest some AP into skill enhancements, and take the skillboost action boost.

    Stats:

    -6 WIS --> +6 CON.
You need HP, moderate WIS is unnecessary on this build. Even for a slightly better Spot and Wil-Save. Every death you avoided by the +3 higher will-save, you will have died 10 additional deaths in other ocasions because you have a significantly lower HP total.

    Level-split:

    If you want to keep Barbarian, go 12 Barbarian / 8 Rogue. Or 12 Barbarian / 7 Rogue / 1 Fighter. Or 12 Barbarian / 7 Rogue / 1 Wizard

The 13 Barbarian level is a dead level. 1 level of Wizard can be completly and better (!) substituted with UMD.

    On a general notice:
Barbarian´s Rage and characters with utility-abilities do not mix well, as most utilitys require you to stop raging. No wand whipping, UMDing scrolls or disabling traps in barbarian rage.

Its generally better to switch to Fighter for such a build. Meaning that the level split above should be switched:
12 Fighter / 8 Rogue. Or 12 Fighter / 7 Rogue / 1 Barbarian. Or *12 Fighter / 7 Rogue / 1 Wizard.* The later split being the one i thing will be closest to how you envision your character´s abilities.

    Conclusion:

The build idea is viable, and i really like having characters in my groups who can help out with many different things. This build here can be tweaked a bit so you will have an overall better performing character who will be "more fun" in the end. I hope my tips give you some tasty food for your thoughts.

Erzskalde (Warchanter) / Erzassassin (just passing through - ignore me) / Erzsoldat (waiting for TR-time) / Erzschmied (ranged Artificer)

Thanks for the input, I will have to run it throught the builder to see what my end results would be and how it may effect what I am trying to accomplish with the build.

I was aware of the no wand whiping, scroll use etc. while raged. It is more for when you really just gotta clear the room as quickly as possible. But, being warforged I do not get exhausted if I have to end a rage prematurely and hence can do so at no penalty except the loss in bonus hit points, etc. which would allow me to heal myself in a pinch.

    Still good suggestions though.

A single level on wizard allows you to use wands without a UMD check, you will still have to make a caster level check on scrolls and any of the worthwhile scrolls will be all but impossible.

the level of wizard definitely did not give you the extra skill points needed for disable device as both the barbarian and rogue classes get more skill points that a wizard (hmmm stange how that works)

So you get to use cure critical wands and stoneskin wands.... with max ranks in UMD (which is really easy to achieve with six levels in rogue) you can use those same wands AND the ever valuable reconstruct/greater restoration/resurrection/heal scrolls.

Drop the level of wizard it is a waste of time, I've never met any WF melee with a level of wizard for wand whipping that didn't later regret taking it.

Basically the changes suggested are validated...Dropping the level of wizard allows for more total skill points, and instead of wasting feats and enhancements on the wizard side of things, I can use the fighter bonus feats to take more combat orieted feats, incresing damage potential and the increased hitpoints are nice as well since I am not buriing up a level slot on Wizard.

I still went rogue for 6 levels allowing me to take the Way of the Mechanic I prestige enhancement. This still may not be a deal breaker, but it is nice just the same. And 14 level of fighter make everything more than adequate.

In direct comparrison, you are looking at this in short...

    Original Build vs. Suggested Changes
Replacing CON for WIS: 310 HP vs. 360 HP and ending stats are more 'combat alligned' for more solo-ability.

Skills: some drop but the use of UMD does allow for full scroll use for higher end scrolls (I stand corrected on the use of scrolls per character level vs. wands). Down side, some of the lesser skills suffer, but they are skills that I was not 'focusing' on anyway. Disable Device and UMD are both maxed in suggested build. This allows use of wands, scrolls, and various 'restricted' gear. UMD is definately a viable skill in suggested build. Spot and Search skills are not 'maxed' but well within useful range. I could probably drop the intimidate altogether and reassign those skill points to something more useful like balance or even add more to Spot and Search skills.

Feats: addiitional combat feats are nice to have, Power Attack and Cleave are always fun to use but did not fit in with original build. Frankly I rarely use them, but will have to see what the build is capable of as it levels. Yes, nimble fingers can more than likely be eliminated or swapped, but the way my dice roll i would rather have the additional bonuses

I will admit the changes are more appropriate for the general build idea that was presented. Thank you to those that actually gave input and made suggestions. Any others are welcome to make their suggestions as well.

    I'd go Fighter12/Rogue6/Barbarian2.

Other than the rage and fast movement what would be the real bonus for taking 2 levels of barbarian?

Rage and fast movement is bonus. Well, fighter 14 doesn't give you much anyway.

Barb also get 4 skills/level (vs fighter 2), so easier to max skills.

Why not just go the extra 2 rog ... more skill than barb... skill boost 3 ... extra d6+3 sneak damage ...

he was taking the barb out because rage interfered with too much. and movement bonus is nice, but eh ...

I never really looked at going past the level 6 for rogue - I was focused on achieving the Way of the Mechanic I Enhancement. The extra bonus to 'sneak damage' would be nice especially combined with flanking bonus, I think. Dependin on where I work the other two levels of rogue in at, that way I could keep the extra feats provided by going higher in fighter level.

Ill see if the trade off is worthwhile, IMO.

    Thanks again for the suggestions...
