old cleric out the window?

I been playing this game well you can see from my join date. Basically i was preparing to full tilt deck my cleric out before the mod. He is just missing 2 slots i want to juggle and has 20th's soon. I was messing around with the character builder, and noticed that favored soul at 20 is superior to anything an old school cleric can do. The main reason ... well the only reason. favored soul gets mass heal as in the heal spell. anything before or after is irrelivant, with their excessive sp faster casting they won't even have to bother with lower level heals with empowered going you are rarely going to have to toss a lower one. Favored soul shouldn't get mass heal if you going to give it to them give bard mass heal too. Hell give paladin mass heal while you are at it then everything can run around flying over obstacles and spamming mass heal. sorry if you disagree or otherwise but this is cleary a knee jerk half .. attempt to fill in another healer. is good to do just don't shaft the actual healer in question

Have you ever even used mass heal on the test server, many favored souls probably won't even bother taking it. Favored souls don't get faster casting either.

Mass heal is extremely slow to cast, I wouldn't suggest it as the key factor in anyone's build. That being said favored soul > clerics for healing if that's what your thing is. Clerics will continue to be somewhat scarce until the new mod hits.

favored soul is a class that exists in pnp. of the dozens and dozens of classes (and prestige classes) that exist, sure many of them are fluff made to sell books. however, favored soul is not something turbine pulled out of thin air to make more people play healers. favored souls do not get their own spell list. they simply have access to cleric spells, in other words, they do not get any spells that clerics dont, including mass heal.

now, the notion that bards and paladins should get mass heal is ridiculous. paladins are not full fledged spell casters, they only get up to 4th level spells. bards only get up to 6th level spells.

favored souls get one and only one advantage over clerics, more sp. like sorcs they are not only limited in how many spells they know, but they go into an instance with fewer spells of each level loaded. also, they need to put points into cha. this may not be a problem for many, my first cleric has high cha for DVs, but my second cleric, who is vastly superior imo has 8 cha.

OCCs (offensive casting clerics) are amongst the most powerfull builds in the game, and the favored soul class does nothing to improve upon them. depending on what your cleric is, i wouldnt fret, you will hold up just fine after the new mod.

to whom it concerns, this is my clerics gear scheme. i planned this and everything else about him out before i rolled him.
head: concentration +13 (looking to improve on that)
neck: lorriks/silver flame/torc pending
face: shroud min II sp item pending
trinket: jerkey
body: blue scale robe/dt shroud (lorriks pending)
sholders: napkin
wrists: bracers of the glacier
waist: cleansed shroud concordant opp II item pending
ring 1: ring of thelis
ring 2: resistance/ff/reaver's
feet: gyroscopic boots pending
hands: gloves of the glacier/gauntlets of eternity
shroud weapon: +6 con, +1 ex wis, +2 ex wis

my normal mode is to wear the blue scale, either the torc or sft, and the glacier gloves. i keep the shroud weapon in my offhand, and a potency item or scroll in my main hand. when i change to healer mode, the plan is to put the shroud weapon in my main hand and have the lorriks shield in my offhand. then i equip the lorriks necklace, dt shroud and gauntlets of eternity to complete the ensemble.
