Usually if I want good people in my party I click their name and select invite.

Yeah, then when they all decline you put up a LFM and take the first 5...

If you are having an issue with people declining stop sending blind invites. I don't send blind invites. As for taking the first 5, when I am doing normal you are right I just take the first 4 even if they PM something like "I'm new is that ok?" Lets face it if they can communicate and are willing to follow directions what else do you need on normal? Not that rare to see me have up a "1 spot left -started" sign either.

When I am in the mood for something that requires skill I manually invite people I know.

I rarely PUG, and then it's usually people that I've grouped with before. Prefer guildies, just easier when everyone works well together. Even easier when you worry more about having a good time than completing the quest...

Heh, nice sarcastic reply to a sarcastic post.

Anyone else would have thought you missed the little smiley at the end of the post but I know better....

Hold a /death party in town, then try to nag the devs into dropping a few Gelatinous Cubes on you.

After this, do the macarena on the ceiling naked and blindfolded with your clothing on(naked under the clothing) and scream "WoW SUCKS!!" 5 times at the top of your lungs. Make sure the neighbors hear you. If they live miles away, use a bullhorn.

Then, put up an LFM that says "If I have to give you directions, I will kick you from party. I am not a leader... Need guide™" and wait until it fills.

I always take the first applicants, so long as their class fits the quest need.

...unless they are on my Blacklist.

I only make exceptions to the "first come get it done" in hard quests like VoD and SoS.

For colanessance "We craw not run, and yes you can bring your camera along. I will make sure you see everything with time to snap pics of it."

Crucible on elite, "need opener, need maze, need swimmer" "level 10-11" while person with the lfm is 8.

    Booze...promises of lap dances..

wait that only works for my guild's lfm's or maybe the Harpers..

As to your question I dunno I just get lucky and when I dont and get **** parties I come crying to the forums for commiseration

I guess getting good players in your party boils really down to not sucking, makes it pretty easy to find other good players if your not a complete noob ^_^

To get good players in the party I use trial and error and being friendly. Figure out who is worth keeping and who the idiots are. I don't usually squelch people but if you get on my nerves or are a bad player I will remember who you are. Most people that I group with these days are in my guild already, but there are a few that I will go out of my way for and an equal amount that I will avoid like the plague.

When it comes to the new players I doubt I will have the patience to play with them and help them along. I have played this game for three years and it drives me nuts every time I come across an incompetent player in the now. September is going to suck...

I PUG a lot, as the guild I'm in is pretty small. I tend to take whoever clicks the join button, though if they are not of level or we are waiting for a healer I'll send them a tell explaining the problem. The level 4 guy trying to join a level 10 LFM probably could use the instruction.

I did have the opportunity to have in my party the other night a cleric with a bad reputation. I got numerous tells informing me of the fact that the human cleric wading into battle with two battle axes and not healing was a problem player. Gee, I couldn't have figured that one out. Fortunately, a guildie and I were able to explain to him how dual wielding works, how light weapons and the correct feats make his to-hit number go up to a useful level, how to see what his to-hit number is in the first place, and how sometimes, it's more effective to stop fighting and just heal everyone.

I'm not sure how well the lessons took, but he seemed to understand the to-hit thing at least.

The thing that gets me about this, is here's a guy who made it to level 9, and NO ONE had explained these things to him.

I understand that some people will give you the whole "don't tell me how to play my character" thing, but 9 times out of 10 someone doing something counter productive could really use some friendly advice. The problem is most of the advice they get is not of the friendly variety, and isn't as helpful.

But guys like that are pretty rare. Most PUGs once you leave the harbor will fill up with people who have some idea of what they are doing. And if you need "good players" to finish quests in the harbor... consider a hireling (grin).

when I am not playing with guildies I do make LFM for pugs "blah..blah...blah..halflings sacrifice optional" . Besides getting tells how uber they halflings who can kick WF arse most of time I get good players or some old ppl who know me but playing their alts. ( many ppl go anon and not possible to see them on /who list). Also keeping all class choices open also helps unless you know some ppl can be weak and need make sure they don't die.

Fortunately the OP never accepted me into the group, so instead I got to make some Vol runs. No boots though
    OK, confession time...

I picked up his stone, and dropped it into the lava as I was jumping down after the 3rd Seer in Madstone.

I only did it because I didn't want to carry his stone close enough to the shrine where he could rez, and I was afraid someone else might pick it up if I didn't. I just wanted a nice, clean end fight without having any loose cannons/peashooters running around.

This was the first time I've ever denied someone a rez... I know from some tells that others in the group approved, but I still don't feel good about it.
