Is quicken a feat that you could live without? Does it require a lot of enhancements to be worth the SP?

quicken is a feat for the poor caster, there is no situation it is needed, just a way to blow alot of sp into thin air

It's also nice for setting up quick disco balls and fogs for quests in which you know you'll have an overabundance of sp, as well as times where you want to get every spell off no matter the damage you're taking in the process. Examples include Reaver, dragon scale runs with multiple casters, blindly charging Velah and blasting with polar ray at her neck, etc.

Why am I a disgruntled vet? I could care less about nerfs, if the rest of the update worked.
I hate epic, GSF !="generalist wizard", and my raid loot luck still *'in sucks.
I've haven't found a need for quicken on my wizard as of yet, but since there are only 2 metamagics left that he hasn't taken and we get yet another free one at level 20, I'm sure it'll find a way onto my hotbar. It's better than Eschew Materials, at least.
I don't even use Quicken for my Cleric who melees.
If you've got a spare feat to blow, sure, its convenient. But there are better choices out there.
To be a counter point (with respect) to the other voices, I find quicken quite useful- "At times".
A) I never keep it on all the time. Putting even two AP in to get a reduction of one SP is not usually worth it.
B) There are some situations, especially on elite, where it just helps getting the spell out.
C) I would never choose it as an early Enhancement. It is a late choice in your build cycle.
D) I would never choose it as a Sorc, only as a Wizard (and a cleric)
That being said, it is mainly used when you absolutely know you are going to get hit, but know you need to get the spells off (I use it a great deal vs. devils).
BTW, using Quicken does not, in any way mean you are a bad player, or a bad caster. As you become more experienced, you will learn when to use it, and when not to (several have been mentioned here), and how it can help you. Some, obviously can live with out it, others rely on it. Try it out for yourself and see what you think.

On all my clerics i take toughness at level one and extend at level three. once i hit gianthold, i swap out extend for quicken. The moment i first turn it on, it never comes off. Even while i'm buffing, i forget to turn it off to save the sp, it's just become natural. Entering gianthold at lower and lower levels, now we're entering when no one has heavy fort, and usually not even medium fort, one hit usually is all it takes to get into the red zone. I can't afford a mis-heal.

All of my clerics have Quicken "Bladebarrier FTW," but none of my casters have it. There is zero use for it on a sorc, and limited use for it on a wizzard since you still have cool down timers to contend with. I'd only take it after you've taken everything else you want to take.

I have quicken on my wizard and my cleric. On the wizard it's useful for setting up spells that take a bit longer to cast, like solid fog/acid fog/dancing ball when you know you need to get up some cc quickly. Also useful to keep from getting interrupted if all of a sudden you find yourself surrounded.
On my cleric, I love quicken for blade barrier and occasionally when I'm getting hit while healing (like in VOD or Sorjek).
I don't keep quicken on all the time as it does drain mana pretty quickly but it's super handy in certain situations! I won't be getting rid of it.
I've had it on my Wiz for a very long time, and almost never use it.
I don't have it on my cleric, but I will take it at lvl 18.
Problem is I can't imagine using my precious cleric mana any faster than I already do.
Some of you people might love using mana pots....I do not.
IMO, quicken is a must have for a Wizard, Bard (depending on ur build), and Cleric. There are going to be times u wished u had it trust me, and ur concentration score no matter how high, is going to make a succesful check.
U don't however need it on all the time.
I use Quicken occasionally; usually either when I need to get a longer-cast spell down swiftly (Fog, Danging Ball in a tight spot), or when there are enemies who trip/knockdown around (Ari Eles, Bezekira, etc...).
I find that my concentration score is suitable for about 95+% of situations at endgame normal content. I've run Hard and Elite stuff, but just haven't noticed whether I've had spells fail during those runs--I tend to work fairly hard at avoiding getting hit.

Quicken is a must have feat. You will not need it all the time, but when you do, you DO need it. I would take it though as one of the last feats for a toon. Why? Until you reach gianthold areas or the vale, you should not be getting interrupted casting spells or using scrolls that often for the sp cost to balance out. I would not keep it on all the time. If your concentration is maximized each level, (and by this you should also have a decent constitution stat score for this skill as well as hp's), then that should suffice for most encounters, provided you are playing smart. However, in later levels, you will find yourself in the midst of melees, you can not always hide in the back safely, and will need concentration to get off scrolls for one (quicken does not help this). Wizards have a slow casting time, like clerics, and there will be times you need to get a spell off fast, as well as don't want to be interrupted doing so (quicken prevents interruption of spell casting). The other meta magic feats like extend, empower, maximize, heighten, spell pen and greater spell pen are more important and you should take first. Then, take quicken once you are level 11-14ish. You have plenty of feat choices as a wizard and you will not find it hard to choose it. At end game, unless your concentration is 54+ (think that was the figure but +/- 5 there), you will get interrupted as mobs teleport and phase in around you and combat surrounds you and you will get hit.

When doing raids i disable quicken because i got a high concentration and want to preserve sp.
When doing vale runs on my own i just love quicken. I destruct/banish and once in a while drop a bb for bigger groups of mobs. That way i never need to slow down to kill stuff and theres enough shrines out there. Quicken + Maximise + Potency = Good times

Been out a while...but wasnt quicken the need to have feat for the black abbot raid? Or is that not the case any more...thats the reason I got it.
