After crafting a Lightning II bow for my ranged ranger, a quick trip into House D weapon shop last night, either I was the luckiest player ever, or someone no longer needed an amazing bow....+1 Holy Burst Composite Longbow of Greater Lawful Outsider Bane. I would have to think that it was sold previously.....I cannot believe I could be THAT lucky to find a weapon like that in the weapon vendor!

Also, could you gamematicians explain which is better in your mathematical jargon, that bow or a Lightning II bow.....both using Silver arrows. It does not matter to me, but I am a little curious.

I would think that which is better will come down to the time invested for one bosses fight. The less time that you spend fighting, Harry for instance, the HB / GEOB bow is going to win out. If the fight ends up being a longer fight, that mathematically gives a greater chance for multiple lighting strikes which means > HB /GEOB.

Situationally, Lightning strike for trash mobs and quick boss and sub-boss fights. The HB bow for more focussed, longer battles with bosses. Just my 2cp

What effects did you put on your lightning II bow?

Assuming all damage (holy, shocking burst, shocking blast), the lightning II gets, over a series of 20 shots:
1*23 more base damage
1d6*19 more shocking damage
2d10*4 more shocking burst/blast damage
4d6*1 more shocking blast damage
12*19 more lightning blast damage (assuming 600 average hit and 2% proc rate)
=375.5

The bane bow gets:
3d6*2 more holy burst damage
3d6*19 more greater bane damage
=220.5

If the monster you're fighting has electrical resistance 30, the lightning II gets, over a series of 20 shots:
1*23 more base damage
11.4*19 more lightning blast damage
=239.6

The bane bow is pretty darn good, but it doesn't quite keep up with the lightning II bow.

Of course, if you're unlucky (or just in a short fight) and you don't get any lightning strikes, the GLOB bow is significantly ahead.

damage boost 3 for 4 damage per arrow and bloodstone.


mostly for harry and sully dps bursts

1455.1/20= 72.75 damage per shot avg.

131.5 crit

13*42.5+6*131.5=1341.5
1341.5/20= 67.075 avg damage per shot.

And that's without fortification, which will hurt the silver longbow, and with lightning resist 30, which will hurt the lightning II bow.

I believe you'd be getting crits on 15-20, not 13-20 (19-20 is doubled to 17-20 by improved crit, then increased by 2 to 15-20 by the crit rage, no?).

In any case, the silver longbow is indeed an amazingly powerful weapon given how easy it is to get.

doesnt crit rage only bring it down to 15 ? not 13 it doesnt drop it by 4

Thanks for the numbers. Ill use it on my ranged ranger to see, he has fully Evil Outsider to Hit and Dmg....and I have gone a full part 4 and 5 Shroud with what I believe was possibly 1 Lightning Strike (remember, Ive rolled 20 1s in 30 saves before) the entire time. Its probably a good weapon to put on my tempest ranger when his transmuting GLOB longbow stops working in Mod 9.
