Default Explain the Wisdom AC bonus?

I don't actually know what it is, but I know that I love AC and I've been trying to find a Drow or 28pt Ranger build with 18 Ranger 2 Monk. So because of this, I guess I need to know what exactly this is and how much Wisdom I need to... I don't know. Make it work?

I've been screwing around in the character planner and was wondering, would 12 Wisdom be enough? I think I needed 11 for Ranger. If I have to, I could eat a +1 tome and make it 13. But like I said, no idea how this works. Please help.

    theres not much to explain
if you have 1 lvl of monk, dont carry a shield nor wear armor nor are medium or heavy loaded you gain your wis modificator to your ac
with just a wis of 12 thats +1 and hardly worth it, there it even is better to take a fighterlvl and get dodge...same effect and you can still wear armor

basically the mod for your wisdom determines how much AC you gain while unarmored and not loaded down. so if at end game you can manage to get +5 mod for your wisdom you should be good.

I would suggest a 14 wisdom to start.

    (drow)
    14 str
    18 dex <-- level ups here - 18+4level+3drow+2ranger+6stat+3tome = 36
    12 con
    10 int
    14 wis - end up 14+6stat+1monk+3tome = 24
    10 cha

That will generally be your template for monk splash dex builds - adjust as necessary. Can consider dropping PA or CE, but I personally like both.

    feats:

    1 - dodge
    3 - mobility
6 - spring attack (and take tempest enhancement)
    9 - power attack
    12 - imp. crit pierce
15 - TWD? toughness? whatever - i'm sure i'm forgetting something - this information is already all somewhere.

    monk feats:
    CE/toughness
    weapon finesse

Some will say a rogue level is better than 2nd monk - umd, etc. They're probably right.

Then just farm - icy, chattering, minos, min II GS, WoP's, WoE's, banishing/smiting rapiers, finesse vorpals, GS HP item, and you'lll pwn all of the mod8 content (no guarantee on mod9)

See you in about 9 months!

    Very incomplete assesment....

    12 Base
    06 Item
01 Tome (Easy to obtain long before 20)
    01 Monk Wisdom Enhancement
    ---------
    20 Total = +5 AC

Add in another 8 for AC Bracers, which should be readily available at 20 and he's now looking at a base 13 AC with full dex bonus. Of course this presumes the build is dex focused to take advantage of wearing AC bracers/Robe (Or Chaos Guard and DT Robe/PJ). It could be better but 5 bonus AC isn't insignificant to the right build.

You can add +2 to the above post total if you craft an exceptional wisdom +2 Mineral II weapon, so +6 AC.

FWIW my ranger/monk has 26 wisdom, but I have a +3 tome and maximum item based wisdom.

Docent doesn't count as armor right? I have a warforged ranger was thinking if I should put a point into monk for the AC.

Uhm, yeah, eating that tome he suggested + enhancements + wis6 item makes that 5 extra ac by only starting with 12 wis, show me that fighter level that gives you +5 ac by taking dodge, oh wait, you can't

Not to mention he likely takes tempest which already requires dodge so that's already given.

Oh look, you just lost Evasion and died from 600 points of DBF in the face . Also, Wearing DT Robe or PJ's provides 6 AC. Add Chaos Guards for 2 more (Or what ever AC 8 bracers/Robes/PJs they have for Mod 9) and there you have 8 AC (+ 5 from Wisdom to match the Full Plate with no Dex restrictions) and evasion.

This route isn't for everyone. But a Dex based character with even a smidge of Wisdom can easily match AC bonuses from Armor while retaining Evasion. And while the Monk bonus feats aren't as expansive as Fighter bonus feats it still allows for Dodge, Mobility, Toughness and CE. All together for a TWF the Monk Splash tends to make more sense than the fighter splash .

Correct. Docents in and of themselves don't count as armor.
