    1) Here's one that was posted today. Can anyone tell me why this bugs me???

    2) Ok, here's a grammar one.

Do many people know the difference between "effect" and "affect" and how to use them?

Here's a sentence that does something I don't think many people can do correctly. That is, use effect and affect properly in the same sentence. Here goes:

The magic effect on your weapon will affect your enemies differently depending on their alignment.

Well, affect/effect has already been listed, as has rogue/rouge (though I'll add on thief/theif), then/than, and tomb/tome. Other common ones are their/there, your/you're, its/it's, hoard/horde, and one particular to DDO that I've noticed a lot: enhancements/enchantments. I should probably just stop there before I keep adding more...

Yes, I have a (completely wasted) degree in English, so things like the above stick out to me. No, I don't go out of my way to correct any of the above when I see them, except for rare circumstances.

I think a few of my longtime friends find it funny, though, to sometimes see how many errors they can pile on before I break down!

Typically a flaw in the vernacular is all... the verbosity of the language leads to much of it's lexical, gramatical and orthographic misuse.

I really hate it when people start a sentence in the 'title' of their post, and then continue it in the post. So, I start reading the body of the post and I can't work out what the heck they're saying, then I have to look up and notice the bit above it in bold with the first half of the sentence.

    It's really annoying.

Lose and loose. Can't stand it when people use loose for lose. Saw a post where lose was used instead of loose, that is even worse.

Yeah I never understood that especailly when they type it out. It would be technically correct to just say "Pacific Time" and less words to type. Maybe they moved to CA from AZ where its always MST?

Bah! Time warp! GMT is no longer the standard ... we now use UTC which is far more precise than that antiquted queen's GMT.
And you will never convice me its easier for me to type "18:00 UTC -6:00" instead of "6PM central"
