Thanks for the long time forum user purge of Aug '10 (Sarcasm for those who don't get it)

I'm aware of them, Aranticus, but did you bother to fire one up? Did I? I only read half the OP before deciding that I didn't need to waste time reading someone else's work before posting my own gibberish, but I didn't go hunting. And even if I had, I probably would have just posted the link. Borr posted it. And then it gnawed at his very marrow, until, five minutes later, he felt the need to break it down for us.

Are you claiming that that is not above and beyond the call of duty (4) or worthy of awe? And some poking of fun?

Here's something that's probably been said at least once every century, but has yet to be documented: "When man sees no purpose in holding himself accountable to any mortal power, he must hold himself instead accountable to an immortal power lest he face the utter corruption of his very soul, at his own hands. Without a force to govern oneself, our most priveledged peoples quickly become tyrants."

    Yay.

TL;DR version -- Without a system of governing principles, or "morals", any and every person will become corrupt, no matter the 'power' and authority granted them. Usually the system is theocratic.

Examples cited: China, the "Ancestors watching everything you do" and Honor System kept them in line.
Rome: "The Gods see everything you do", and society of intellectual exchange.
Egypt: "The Gods(including deceased pharaohs) watch you always.", society uncertain.
Babylon: America's second iteration, with America itself being the fourth case of repetition of past mistakes utilizing the same societal and economic systems. Babylon's precursor nation(the first case of these mistakes) was documented, but the records were destroyed by barbarian raiders(unfortunately... they didn't even give the Spanish Inquisition a chance to burn all the records). The third is the case of Britain and the mistakes therein(in places where the monarchy held only figurative power).
Israel and the Mesopotamian Crescent: See The Holy Bible.

This is just a means for us (I believe) to boost individual forum members status above the rest. I have no problem with that as some of you guys do a lot of helpful things on these boards.

Where it does become a problem for me is the negative rep that as someone said earlier warns new posters and everyone else in the community of a poster who in some peoples opinion could be trolls.

A system like that forces someone with negive rep to sit in a corner by himself as some will avoid him and never get the chance to know or attempt to know him. I say that each individual should make up his own mind about a poster through experience and not heresay as the facts could be wrong.

if a person is trollish and is not regarded as one and excluded by the community, isnt that good? yes there is a system to moderate them but the system is not foolproof as the mods will not be able to read all the posts

It has other disadvantages that impact gameplay experience as well.

Example: say a person with some real bad negative rep sees a poster looking for a vorpal kama and offering a tome. The neg rep guy has such a kama and needs/wants the tome so he communicates to the other poster who replies "dude, your a troll. I need a kama but not from you, no thanks".

you noticed that the OP doesnt list his toons? going unknown and trolling the forums is a popular tactic

I think you know as well as I do ranty that we dont need this kind of visible branding here on the forums or in game. Besides, if you are on the boards often enough, you know whos who and whats what. Do we want new players coming in days from now say "I just started posting 2 days ago and I have more rep than you. So to me your 2006 start date means nothing"

i agree with this one. i started a thread to list the more serious posters in these forums, you probably seen it and guess what? some decide its a "boost each other's epeen" exercise. whatever we try, there are 2 sides of the coins. to really get neg rep, you have to be really really deplorable. would be more of exception than the norm

Does the OP have a different agenda in mind? I dont know but it doesnt change the fact that I think the rep system as it stands is worse than a tool for griefing because it marks you as well.

If Ive been taking crazy pills plz let me know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx_ZU...eature=related
i respect you ideas and perspective which is why we are discussing this like adults. unfortunately, this doesnt apply to the OP

i use them frequently but they are only available on my college's laptops. too expensive to install on mine. they highlight the differences and similarities in different colours. the good ones can even detect whether a sentence is plagarised or written by looking at sentence structure

I wanted to give out my first -1 rep for Plagiarism by the OP (as proven here http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=32 and http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=36) in a rant that begins by complaining about a lack of accountability but unfortunately I've given out too much positive in the last 24 hours and I'm out of rep lol.

Because you can only give pos rep once to a person before giving rep to a number of others and only so much per day, you would need a HUGE guild to be able to do this. What's more Tolero or Tarrant said early on that if such conduct were detected (and I'm sure they have looked at the small handful who can neg rep) an offenders rep would be reset to zero.

Perhaps, later in life when karma flex's its POWER...those who abuse their power and authority will know fair and balanced in life. Winning in here is not a sweet as when one loses in the real world. I will merely laugh inside of your karma to come. We take our victories even the small ones.

Naw, I think I've gotten more pos rep from saying "you need to change this Turbine" than "I love you Turbine". You just have to make it a constructive crit so that people actually read it, say "wow that makes sense, good idea" as opposed to a rant that just annoys people, even if they agree with you to some degree.
