Default Noob needs a +1 str tome =/

Hi there, I'm new to DDO and was trying to follow a build guide for a monk from the forums. The poster was using a 32 point build (which obviously I can't do) and so I tried to adjust it for a normal build. Now after playing over a week I hit level 6 to realize that I can't train power attack because my strength is 12 instead of 13.

I'm nowhere close to affording a tome, and I heard many vets have pages and pages of +1s filling up their bank. I was hoping that some kind soul would maybe send one my way so that I don't have to start over and fall WAY behind my friends in level.

    Thanks in advance

I unfortunately cannot help you out directly, but given that next week you will be able to purchase +1 tomes in the store you could just take a place holder feat and then respec.

Should prevent you from having to reroll anyway.

I had your back until you said Monk, then I had to /vomit a little.

I "think" I have a +1 STR tome lying around somewhere. Let me know your toon's name and when I get on tonight I'll shoot 1 in the mail to you.

ahaha, I'm actually regretting monk a little, my friends are all wading through mobs chopping them to pieces, meanwhile I'm hitting for something like 4 damage consistently =/ Gonna stick it out though I'm sure he'll get better!

Anyway, my toon is "Wylkeroso" and thank you so much <--- edited character name to the right one (god I'm a moron)

I would actually roll something different if I were you. 28 points monk as a first character is a tough call. The best IMO would be to try to ramp up your favor to 400 (if you do not have it yet) to get a drow and roll a drow something (cleric with a monk splash?). With a cleric you should be able to level and accumulate favor quick (it's not as hard anymore with max favor in a range of 2600) and then roll your monk after unlocking 32 points build.
That would be my plan anyway.

I think monk as a first char is an overall poor choice imho. If you like clicky attacks, a fighter with improved trip and stunning blow might be a lot more newbie friendly, and won't require any extremely outlandish stats or gear, or a barbarian, as far as melees go. It's also hard to go wrong with a tempest ranger or one of the many builds around tempest rangers.

Monks are an excellent class to splash a level or two on many builds however (too excellent, to the point of being seen as cheesy, but as a new player, a little edge can't hurt )
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.

The replies about changing class are a little disheartening, I have actually felt pretty gimped so far as a monk, and I guess you guys know why lol.

I've got some friends playing and I have a hard time staying up with them level wise as it is (play time) and rerolling would set me back even more though...

Need to find a sponsor or something I guess to help get a decent build going =/

As a cleric you would have no problems finding groups so leveling should be quick.
Monk is a nice class to play but you need to have an idea what is going on and you need to spread stats a lot what is very tough for a 28 points build.
If you want to level a character which you would not want to reroll after a short time my way is quite efficient because a cleric drow is almost like a 32 points build but for only 400 favor what is very easy to get. And playing a cleric will give you some experience so you would have a better idea what to do for your new characters when you hit 1750 favor.

It's simple. If you play enough to understand DDO enough to make a really nice build you probably have a couple of tomes around. And actually the only tome you can not make up for at a higher level is an INT tome (gives you more skill points during levelling). All other tomes can be earned/applied at later levels so no reason to stress yourself when you're starting.
Check a barb build named something like "the only barbarian build you'll ever need" and following this advice you can work on a pretty good DPS barb. Cleric "heal bot" does not require a rocket science as well and you can get tomes later or never (if you decide to use them on your next build).

You dont need a tome in every stat, they are just showing you the potential. There are some builds you need tomes to qualify for certain feats etc, but they can be switched out later. You can also go with some simple builds that are hard to mess up. 16 clr max wis, good con, dump the rest where you want em, str to avoid being helpless when enfeebled, cha to get a few dv's etc. You can also do an arcane caster. Max your casting stat, decent con, if sorc make sure you max umd and if wiz go wf'd and you can self heal pretty well with both.

If you are going melee its hard to screw up a ranger. I would go str/con build myself so you dont have to grind for ac gear. You can still have a decent ac and solid str and con. Dwarf rangers are very solid and hard to gimp (although anything is possible).

Another build to consider for the long run is a high haggle bard. You can be the best buffer in the game, support melee/healer, and get some $ while youre at it. GL and feel free to shoot me a pm if you have any questions
