The movie was on "SyFy" tonight, so I watched her fight with an eye towards her fighting style. No rage, very precise, controlled movements. She's probably somewhere more along monk/kensai lines than anything else.

I will admit the obvious mental instability does argue berzerker, though. Have to love the halfthing warsqueak too.

I would agree with that assessment .. I also noted that she fluidly shifted from unarmed 1H to 2H to 2W fighting styles .. So I'd even go so far as to give her a majority of fighter levels. Perhaps 12Ftr/6rgr/2mnk

Elf (or Halfling if you desire) 12Ftr/6rgr/2mnk
    1 Rgr - 2HF
    2 Mnk - Toughness
    3 Mnk - Dodge / Mobility
    4-5 Ranger
    6 Ranger - Spring Attack
    7-8 Ranger
9 Fighter iTHF / iCrit: Slashing (Tempest I)
    10 Fighter - WF: Slashing
    11 Fighter
    12 Fighter - gTWF / gTHF
    13 Fighter
    14 Fighter - WS: Slashing
    15 Fighter - Power Attack
    16 Fighter - Cleave
    17 Fighter
18 Fighter - Iron Will / Great Cleave
    19 Fighter
20 Fighter - gWS: Slashing (Kensai II)

I didn't give her d-axe or OTWF because that axe in the offhand looked more like a hand axe and the main hand sword looked pretty much like a katana to me (in the stills - in the movie tonight, I didn't see it closely enough to make a distinction)

The problem with Kensai in this situation is that you have Unarmed, Single-handed and Two handed weapons and Kensai has to choose one..
If we had monkey-grip, I'd do this build as a WF with great swords in each hand!

    Interesting build full of flavor.

Just a quick note on this; You could probably swap IC; Slashing for Toughness after you craft a couple of Mineral2 Dwarven Axes, after all, those are the biggest axes in the game

Actually, with the curved, flaring tip, it reminded me of nothing so much as my greensteel scimitar. (Which I find suspicously straight and thin for a scimitar, but that may be too many cartoons sepaking)

There is the longsword ki feat that showed up in the compendium. Depending on how that and the monk PrEs shape up, I could almost see a 2ftr/monk/ranger tempest sword monkey split. Unfortunately, that messes w/ the "pick up anything slashy and cause much hurt" that would make for such a wonderful theme.

    Two GS D.Axes = yes!
Both of them MinII = ??? Hmmm maybe ?

That is an interesting way to get toughness in without sacrificing any capabilities. Hmmm....

    Warforged?

Ok... she is not a kensai. Kensai is a martial savant, the "sword saint" who has invested his or her life in an intensive study of a single weapon.

If she wasn't FB, then monk2/fighter18. Not kensai just fighter. Will have problems hitting with STR on the oversized weapons, but will have enough feats to take multiple Improved Criticals and Exotic Weapns. And Toughness out the wazoo. Precision probably a must... Or pure Ranger. But... really... River is a little whacked. Somethin' wrong with her medulla oblongata. I can't see anything except Frenzied Berzerker FTW

p.s. no that is NOT a handaxe!

p.p.s. I hate "SyFy". What was wrong with SciFi?

the axe blade is plenty big there, but its got no haft to it.. and i agree with you that D-Axes are much cooler

IMO: Psychic Warrior would be a better fit but you are still getting +Rep for creative use of the name.

You should try taking a stab at “The man called Jayne”
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

At risk of starting yet another “What does alignment mean?” thread. I’ve always thought of him as Neutral Evil. (Extremely selfish) Though I would roll him up with an 8 Wisdom.

LOL at the risk of derailing this fine thread. Yeah I thought about that but since we cant have "evil" alignments in the game. I was thinking close to this definition I have used for all my past PnP CN characters

    Chaotic Neutral

Chaotic Neutral is called the "Anarchist" or "Free Spirit" alignment. A character of this alignment is an individualist who follows his or her own heart, and generally shirks rules and traditions. Good and Evil come a distant second to their need for personal freedom, and the only reliable thing about them is how totally unreliable they are. They typically act out of self-interest, but do not specifically enjoy seeing others suffer. Many free-spirited adventurers are of this alignment.

I was actually thinking about working up a Jayne build after I saw this. I was thinking human fighter that is heavy repeating crossbow spec'ed, cause we know how much Jayne likes big guns. I will agree that his alignment would have to CN.
there's one thing you never put in a trap if you're smart. If you value your continued existence. If you have any plans on seeing tomorrow then there's one thing you never, ever put in a trap.

Yes Someone needs to build this....the only prob i can think of is that you can't get int below 8, and lets face it Jane is not a smart man. Now pass me some more of that mother's milk.

Btw why are you putting skill points into listen?

    Jayne Cobb... hmmm...

CN for sure, but not committed to it, and has NE tendencies. Big, human, strong, lots of toughness, lots of weapon skills. Also not a Kensai, partly due to chaos but also because he has skills in a lot of different weapons.

Ok I had to delete a bunch of stuff because I accidentally started on a real Jayne Cobb build! I think it can work too. But I want to post that seperately

That may be a mistake. As I am levelling her I am using Balance instead. I will update the build template.

Actually, I would say he is a Kensai. Fighters are proficient with all but the exotic weapons, which covers his skills. But I recall he had a favorite, the weapon he loved, he had a name for it (which I can't remember), it was a assault rifle (the biggest gun on-board, and even it wasn't big enough to penetrate the hull as I recall him telling Mal).

Can we keep him out of this one? LOL

Looks good, and love the Serenity theme.

One thing, take TWF 1st level instead of D.Axe, and you can start Rogue for all those yummy skill points, and take D.Axe at level 3.

    a question about your feats:
why take itwf and gtwf so late?
and what you plan to use till you get them?
twf without them, thf or even snb?
