My most favorite splash build is a monk splash into rogue, final build of 18/2 taking the acrobat PrE. Most fun I have ever had with a rogue/monk, and most fun with any melee since I finished leveling my ranger/rogue/monk.
Please remember the 10% attack speed boost from tempest doesn't work with unarmed attacks.
The best splash for a monk is something like 18 paladin levels or 18 barb levels, or even 18 ranger levels and 1 rogue level.
I am currently having a blast with my DEEP splash Cleric/Monk, currently 9 Clr/3 Monk, aiming towards probably 11 Clr/9 Monk.
Even with only 3 levels of Monk, my Ki healing goes off for about 30HPs per, and I can pretty much spam that.
Just realize you will have to be picky about which groups you join, or start your own.
Hi, I play Generic Fantasy RPG Online, formerly known as DDO.
Stay pure. Most other splashes aren't viable, unless you want to be a trapmonkey (/1 or 2 Rogue) or aim for a monk/fighter-kensai pairing. Ranger is still a mix I see, but it's not as popular as it was previously.
there might be some barb/monks as from what i heard there was a bug once which placed your aligment back to lawful good no matter the class...though it might have been fixed retro now, dunno

Accepting that you mean splashing INTO Monk, rather than Monk splashes on another build, then Rogue and Ranger are the most popular.
1 Rogue gives full UMD, Intimidate and Sneak Atk, and with proper INT allows full trap skills.
2 Rog allows more access to SA enhancements.
6 Ranger has been covered, but free TWF/iTWF and the option of +10% attack with Spring Atk. Also some minor spells (Jump!) and Favorite Enemy.
1-2 Fighter for Intimidate and feats.
2(3) Paladin for saves (and Immunities).
1-2 Wiz for free metamagic and Shield spell (and no fail shield wands)
1 Cleric for metamagic and wand access.
The Rog1/Rng6 is probably the biggest splash given the synergy, but Ftr/Rng and Pal/Rng also exist. Rog1/Pal3 is also OK. The big thing is to make sure there are at least 12 Monk levels in order to get Abundant Step.
That said, as pointed out, most people splash Monk into OTHER builds as that tends to give the most important Monk benefits while adding them to a stronger base class/character.
