Default New Player Looking for guild/help/mentor etc

    Hello,

Just signed up yesterday, I'm a mature player familiar with booth MMO's and D&D, but not DDO.
Thought I would give it a try. I usually pick things up quickly but I would really appreciate some help getting started, I browsed the forums and bit and based on mentions in a few posts I decided to go with the Khyber Server, word is you is good people

My current character is Arnec Sharpe a paladin currently lvl 2 but I'll probably be trying out few other classes, I'll post them up here as I make them.

Soloing is rather boring and if your new it can be frustrating, so right now I'm looking for guild/group who has patience for newer players. I learn fast and I' sure I'll be able to contribute pretty soon. I certainly don't mind helping out new players myself provided they don't act children, and once I'm familiar with the starting area and have a few starting characters in the pipe I can help run other new players through for a guild, however I am looking for an established guild with experianced and mature players not a newbie guild.

    Thanks in advance

    Daniel

Welcome to DDO I would suggest playing a bit and grouping with lots of different people just use the lfm. I am sure you will get invited to a guild before too long. but find people that have the same (playstyle and fun) as you before you join one.

your right, the khyber server houses a bunch of good people. im not implying that the other ones dont, i just dont know the other servers very well. there are more than a few good guilds that would fit you here, im sure you wont have any problems picking one.

welcome to ddo, i hope you like it as much as we do

    Default Greetings.

    Hi welcome.

    The above advice is good:

Do some pugging, first. While all the larger guilds have some top talent, they vary widely in personality and history.

It would be a bad idea for anyone to colour your impressions with their own prejudices, and most here won't do it. Make up your own mind about who you run pugs with and who you seem to get along with best.

mimicing other posters, I would also suggest leveling up a bit. get to know people with guild tags in your party.

Around levels 11-13 you should have a better idea of where to go. Most people it seems, atleast on this server, do pick up groups while leveling. Being in a guild at low level isnt going to do much for you party wise.

we seem to have alot of low level toons available to help out newbies too. must not be the norm for blacksteels guild. the "most people on this server" remark is inacurate ... imo. not that there is anything wrong with the difering playstyle of different guilds, but i dont think the term "most" fits very well in this instance.

Really? Most of my experience with larger guilds on this server is that, most of them (guild members) wont bother to log in until its raid time. Then they'll start asking questions about who you are, and how did you get in the guild and stuff... Not to mention make a complete ass of themselves on a tile puzzle.

And always running as a group, doesn't let you meet any new people. ;p

hmm. Well I for one am in Emili's guild and I intentionally keep low level characters so I can run lowbie stuff with fellow guildies and new guildies. Additionally, I often Pug unless there is a guild request to run something or if the're doing a raid and I am off timer. I say this to you because most everyone in our guild runs in similar fashion, although alot of them only have capped toons, (Suckers!) and while I am inclined to agree in part with your assertion that "larger guilds" are narrowly focused with particular agendas, i.e. raids, etc, etc, I would'nt go so far as to broad stroke that statement across the board, because it simply is not true. I would say a "few" larger guilds are like that. I have been in several guilds myself and can attest to the wide variance within each one.

Yes, and is why you're here and always welcome in "our" guild... just teasing, just clarifying it belongs to all of us. Is only one reason I have no lowbie characters for a while... that is because i'd lose character slots will have to scrap a few characters to reroll one. I do miss leveling up a new one though been like six months...

Maybe like one out of 20 heroes in the boat I'm in ... most still have low and mid levels available or rerolls in the works.

Guildchat is the Heroes first means of grouping ... hop on a character and ask and most the time you get least one or two guildies to help begin the group... sometimes it will fill without an LFM - all guildies - sometimes not and just a pug or two... but it does help. FH is much akin a clann they get along and take care of each other much like a family, then again sometimes fight among each other as one too.

There are large guilds who strive to help newbies out. Some like MAC strive to train new blood. Yes we will mess up a tile puzzle too, while we are teaching new folks shroud.
