Depends on whether you have to buff to equip your equipment.

The build posted has 15.5 UMD without GH or shroud item. That's not enough to bypass a true chaos weapon, let alone a level 12 rr weapon or armor. Take a disjunction and drop that to 12.5 and, well, yea.

UMD next mod will be useful for teleport, heal scrolls and raise dead/res. 2 out of 3 of those a pally can do by himself without UMD 4x per shrine. Plenty of raise dead clicky options as well.

As said, just me though. I'm open minded though, maybe I'm missing something.

Well, considering the start of that chain was posted by a guy who was obviously suggesting a starting 18 STR, not really. 16 Starting STR/14 Starting CHA = DM I. Add a +2 Tome you get DM II. +4 Tome (Like were supposedly getting in mod 9) you get DM III.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

To be fair, you could take CE and toughness with 2 monk, but I'd rather take 2x toughness myself. Different playstyles obviously.

On thet topic of mod9, I also wouldn't take UMD on a pally. Just me though.
Those grazing hits are only grazing hits if your AC is high enough where they'd miss on roll of 15+ (or whatever they decide to put the range at). Otherwise you take full damage.

And I fail to see the benefits of taking toughness more than once, diminishing returns and all. 1x Toughness opens up the Toughness enhancements, netting you upwards of 102 HP (WF and Dwarf, plus 22 for actual feat @ lvl 20), 92 for human, and 82 for all others. Second toughness gets you 22 HP @ lvl 20.

Would much rather have CE to boost my AC. Although they've stated mob to-hit would be scaled down to make mid-lvl AC more useful, 5 AC can mean the difference between a full dmg blow becoming only a grazing hit. 22 HP won't even begin to mitigate the damage if your AC isn't up to snuff.

Takes 4 build points with drow to qualify for DM I, 6 build points for human, elf, and halfling. 10 Build points for dwarves and WF. +2 Tome for DM II. +4 tome for DM III and you're done.
