    Default Some tactics questions:

    Hey guys,

    1) My understanding is that halflings get a penalty to 'trip' due to size. Is that correct?

    2) Does this penalty also apply to 'stunning blow'? This is a question I have had difficulty getting an asnwer to.

    3) Do the fighter tactical enhancements work? I heard that they don't.

    Cheers

Any strength check based attack will be permanently -1 difficulty for a halfling vs any other race with the same stats/gear at the time, simply because they're starting with -2 strength. It will have +1 to the dice rolls to land vs missing in the first place though.

AFAIK - IMPROVED TRIP is the only one having issues. Regular trip, stunning blow, sunder, improved sunder, should all be working. I have not personally gone out and tested any of them, that's just what I got out of other threads I've read.

So they don't lose 4 for their size? I thought it worked kind of like intimidate - there is a -4 penalty for each size difference between tripper and trippee; giving haflings a bad start to it all. Was I wrong?

Interesting what you say about the enhancements. Maybe its worth going stunning blow, instead of trip and using the fighter stunning blow enhancements.

    Cheers

You get trip for free. Just don't take improved if you're going to take fighter/kensai enhancements.

I have never run a halfling... log on, make a lv1 halfling fighter with 16str, and see what your DC is on the trip skill. Compare to a human fighter with 16str. Should be the same.

Put trip on your hotbar and highlight it, it'll tell you the current DC. (10+Strength Mod+Enhancements/etc. = DC), DC is the dice roll they have to beat to NOT be tripped. I.E... trip DC 16, if they have less then 16 balance they fall. They might get +D20 to their balance score, like you do on a regular save, but you'd have to ask a pen and paper guy that. I'm really not sure.

its str or dex bonus + 1d20 vs DC or be tripped. You roll a balance check to get up and I do believe halflings get a penalty beyond -1 for str to trip due to size...... or at least Ive heard but never seen myself as I dont make halflings really.

OK, after playtesting I am still stumped.

I created two identical toons; both fighter, one halfling and one human.

Any size penalties do not show when you hover your cursor over the skill in the hot bar. Both characters had identical trip and intimidate DCs; despite the fact that I know halflings get -4 to intimidate.

No worries I thought; I will play test it. I went and started intim/tripping some lowbie mobs and loe and behold, the intim diceroll comes up and you can see the -4 size penalty being applied to the roll.

HOWEVER, I could not see any roll being applied to trip. I saw the to-hit roll, for the regular hit, either on the dice or in my combat log, but I saw no roll being made for the trip. Now I realise a roll is being made in the background, but I saw no evidence of it, and so can't do the number crunching.

    Anymore advice? Anyone?

    Cheers

The reason why when you scrolled over intim and the DCs were the same is because it doesn't factor in size modifiers right away.

On my barbarian tanking the stormreaver (a giant) his intim + on the die is less.

So if you intimed a kobold, you wouldnt get the -4, but a human would just get a +4

This is very poorly put, but its late and I'm tired =.=

He's talking about on the actual dice graphic. Like when you swing at an enemy it shows you a little dice over on the right above the examine window, and says you rolled 18... and under it says +2... from your attack bonus. Go up to some mobs and hit intimidate on those two characters. The halfling's modifier under the dice call would show you the penalty.

Couldn't do this with Trip, since that penalty would only be visible on the monster's side. You would just see your to-hit roll like any other attack.

what Nezichiend stated is correct for intimidate.

if you have a human and you intimidate a kobold, your intimidate score increases by 4. if you intimidate a creature larger than you, ie suulomades, the score is lowered by 4

for trip, its works the OPPOSITE way. your trip always have the SAME DC. what is different is the save score of a mob. if you trip something smaller than you, the mob gets a penalty to its save. if you try to trip something larger than you or has more than 2 legs, they get a bonus to their saves

in effect, while it works like a penalty, it does not affect you directly
If you want to know why...

So, in essence (compared to the other playable races), Halflings take a penalty to trip? Is it -4?

Do they suffer a penalty to stunning blow? I'm thinking of changing Impr. trip to stunning blow.

    Cheers guys
