    Default Help with Ranger Build

Hello, I have been gone from DDO for roughly 2 1/2 years and just decided to come back and start playing again. When I was playing I loved my ranger/drow build based on dex and stat weapons. I want to start playing a ranger but I am a bit confused with all the new things rangers can get. From what I can gather reading the forums, the old dex rangers are not viable anymore. I keep hearing about the tempest ranger builds and was wondering if they will be viable for Mod 9.

I am thinking of going str based now since that seems to be the best for Rangers now and was looking for a tempest ranger build but I can't seem to find an updated version. If someone can help a returning player and point me in the right direction, I would be appreciated. What I am looking for is information is basically a up to date tempest build that I can study and tweak it for my play style, which is a pure ranger with good damage and self sufficient since I plan to play in a perma death guild.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    So difficult to find?

Or afraid of reading the wall of text?

Erzskalde (Warchanter) / Erzassassin (just passing through - ignore me) / Erzsoldat (waiting for TR-time) / Erzschmied (ranged Artificer)

The build Noctus linked is not a very good build. I would not recommend it.

I can help you get a better build, but first I need to know if you have unlocked 32 pt builds (Dunno if that existed back when you played thou)?

No I have not unlocked 32 point builds yet, just the drow. I don't even know how much favor I have. I appreciate the help by the way, seems the forums are not the same as when I was playing.

Okay. 28 pt will work fine.
As mod 9 is just around the corner (lol I've been saying that since january) I'll make the build for level 20.

    Class: Ranger 18 / monk 1 / rogue 1
    Race: Human
    Allignment: Lawful Neutral.

    Starting Stats:
    Str 16
    Dex 15
    Con 12
    Int 8
    Wis 14
    Cha 8

    Ending Stats:
    Str 32 (16 base + 5 level + 6 item + 2 tome + 2 rams +1 enhancement)
    Dex 26 (15 base + 2 tome + 6 item + 3 ranger enhancement)
    Con 20 (12 base + 2 tome + 6 item)
    Int 8 8 base
    Wis 26 (14 base +1 tome + 6 item +2 shroud weapon +1 enhancement)
    Cha 8 8 base

It might seem unreasonable to get all those tomes, but believe me, unless you're playing very casually you will get those +2 tomes, and even +3 tomes, soon enough.
They don't make or break the character either.

Final AC Breakdown with tomes and fancy gear:
    10 Base
    8 dex
    8 wisdom
    8 armor
    4 icy raiment
    5 deflection
    1 Dodge
    3 Chattering Ring
    4 insight
    1 Ritual
    1 monk
    4 tempest shield bonus
    3 Favored
    (2 defensive fighting)
    ----------------
    60 (62) - unbuffed
    ----------------
    5 barkskin
    1 haste
    2 recitation
    ----------------
    68 (70) - self buffed
    ----------------
    6 aura
    4 bard song
    ----------------
    78 (80) with party buffs

This basicly mean that when you reach your full potential you will run around with 66-67 AC (it will be 67 if you find a +3 wisdom tome) in DPS mode.
Considering that I got attacked for saying that a ranger with 50 AC in full defensive mode is bad, you might realise that 66-67 AC is pretty high.

And you can also boost for 4 more AC.

    Enhancements

    Enhancement: Rogue Haste Boost I
    Enhancement: Ranger Sprint Boost I
    Enhancement: Human Adaptability I: Strength
    Enhancement: Human Adaptability II: Wisdom
    Enhancement: Human Improved Recovery II
    Enhancement: Human Versatility III
    Enhancement: Ranger Favored Attack II
    Enhancement: Ranger Favored Damage IV
    Enhancement: Ranger Favored Defense III
    Enhancement: Ranger Favored Resistance II
    Enhancement: Ranger Tempest III
Enhancement: Rogue Sneak Attack Training I
    Enhancement: Ranger Devotion IV
    Enhancement: Ranger Dexterity III
Enhancement: Rogue Improved Trap Sense I
    Enhancement: Racial Toughness II

    Feats:
    1.Dodge
    1 (human).Mobility
    2 (Monk). Power attack
    3.Khopesh
    6.Spring attack
    9.Oversized two weapon fighting
    12.Improved critical slashing
15.Maximize Spell (for your CSW, very efficient for selfhealing)
    18.Toughness

Favored Enemies: (number = the level you get it)
    3. Giant
    7. Undead
    12. Evil outsiders

And swap giant for constructs when you start running The Shroud.

    Skill Points:

At level 1 put 4 points in Balance, UMD, Jump, Concentration, open lock, spot, and the last 8 in whatever you want.
At level 2 you put 1 point in balance, 1 in concentration and 2 in UMD.
At level 3 you put 1 point in balance, 3 in concentration and 2 in UMD
At level 4 you put 3 point in balance, 1 in concentration and 2 in UMD
At level 5 and forth you put 2 points in balance, 1 point in concentration, 2 points in UMD and 1 point in jump.

    Leveling order:
Take rogue at level 1, monk at level 2 and rest ranger.

This is about as good a 28 pt ranger can get. Better than 99% of the 32 pt rangers too.

Yargore, you're assuming a lot of high end items and he's tallking about perma death.

I think a simpler build with less assumptions about equipment would be of more use since he's unlikely to even get to a high enough level to worry about collecting some of that.

    Oh, missed that last part.
Will adapt the build when I have time.

(Also noticed that he wanted a pure ranger)
