Sorry for the thread necromancy, but seeing as this is basically an elf-love circle jerk thread, I just couldn't resist. I did most of my old school gaming in Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance settings, so I'm new to DDO and the Eberron setting. Way different! But I like what I see so far. Elves are particularly interesting to me, especially the Valenar, which I chose for my first character here.I have to say, I'm enjoying my scimitar-wielding ranger both in combat and in RP.
Just have one little note to add here....
Halflings ftw!
This game, I like halflings... I tried a bunch of other races but they eventually get deleted...
As for favourite race in any D&D I've played... would be a tie between Thrikreen and half-giant.
Halflings (from 3rd editon) and elves are my favorite. I never really liked the whole hobbit thing (blasphemy right?) and would play elves in 2nd edition. I've always liked the lithe/graceful races and those two fill that niche. Nothing quite like being the baddest dude on the block and every thinks you're a pansy because you don't have 95 lb biceps.
only thing i like about elves are the hot chicks they offer![]()
PS: Greensteel RUINED the game! and you all know it!
less buffing, more nerfing!!!
to make it easier for those of you that wants to avoid me in game, all my characters are in "Bladesworn Mercenaries"
One thing that's specific to Eberron is how...twisted...the Elf culture is compared to Tolkien / PnP D&D norms.
Specifically, read about the Undying Court.
Elves are not your baseline happy, frolicking forest-dwelling blondes with bows. Elves are baroque, death-obsessed, undead-ancestor-worshipping, necromancy-casting happy jungle-dwelling blondes with bows.
They're a lot more like Aztecs or pulp Ancient Egyptians in feel. And they regard the Blood of Vol with contempt. Not because they're evil or a threat, but because they're amateurs. The Black Mausoleum is a sad little shack compared to Shae Mordai, the Aerenal City of the Dead.
