Strakeln fried one of his video cards, er, well, at least mostly fried it. I think he then dunked it in water just to be sure. Makes for a good excuse to upgrade.

I'll be back in a week or so. Poor Gtar will probably need a vacation by the time I get back.

New video card is here, but I have to wait for mo' memory and a 64-bit OS to arrive. New vid card has 2GB of VRAM, that'd leave me with 1GB of addressable RAM after DWM had it's way with my machine.

If the new Vid card has 2 gigs, it should be it's own ram and not take any away from your system

And as far as i know, won't you have to wipe your system to goto a 64 bit OS?

Correct. The problem is that the CPU still has to fill the video card memory, and to do that it needs to store the location of the video card memory. Here's a long story that sorta explains it.

Nope, Qwijy's machine is still the same old PoS. My year-old machine got the upgrade

Although now I have a couple spare 8800GTs laying about (one partially fried) that I'm considering putting in there. Qwijy's computer has a 64MB video card... GeForce Ti300 or something like that, lol.

Sad thing is, when I bought that machine ~9 years ago, I was the envy of all of my friends. A 1.9 GHz P4! 512 MB RDRAM! 64MB video card! 80GB hard drive! OH YEAAAAAHHHHHH KOOL AID!

I also distinctly remember wondering how the hell I'd ever run out of space on an 80GB hard drive... . Now I worry that my two 500GB drives won't be enough. Funny how fast things change.

I think the funniest part though is memory prices. RDRAM is notoriously expensive compared to SDRAM. To upgrade that thing to 1GB of RAM about three years ago, it cost me around $180. Compared to my recent update, where I bought 8GB of RAM for $90.

I just about **** my pants last night.

Decent run through Tor on my cleric, cleared the map and finishing the last half of black dragon my monitor goes black.

I thought I was next in line.

Had to reboot and run diskcheck and restarted fine.
