    Default Ranger/Fighter.....any suggestions?

    Hey all,

I've had an idea for a character based on one of my favorite cartoon characters...Taz. I wanted a toon that was either a THF or TWF strength based fighter....with intimidation & whirlwind attack. Cleave & great cleave would have been nice too, but I'll take what I can get here.

So I decided to go with a Tempest II based ranger with Stalward Defender 1. Not sure if anyone else has this already (searched for tempest defender & fighter ranger builds and nothing came up for me) and would like to share how they like their build....but here is my attempt at creating the Tazmanian Devil. He is a Dwarven build, not many races to me fit the size requirements of Taz as well as a Dwarf. He is OSTWF, and so far he is doing really well in groups as well as soloing. I'm quite impressed. He is currently 5th lvl. I'm curious to find out from the Ranger & Fighter gurus.....which way would be a better build? 12 Ranger/ 8 Fighter for the Tempest 2 / Stalward Defender 1 setup....or 18 Ranger / 2 Fighter for Tempest 3....Never attempted this type of build before (OTWF) so any feedback would be great! And if anyone has a build like this, what do you like about this type of build and what would you change?

    - Why do I want intimidate....taz is an intimidating character, but to me it's far easier to intimidate the trash mobs and have them center around me so I can use whirlwind attack to the most effective attack....those dwarven axes can dish out some punishment. And when fighting the main bosses, I really don't plan on intimidating them to keep aggro....the axes should do that on their own.

Definetly 18/2 over 12/8. tempest III is way better than Defender I.

For futher build discussion, could you please post the build in the "build feedback", instead of the "build reproduction" mode. The later is cluttered up with tons of useless information.

I'd agree w/ the above poster 18/2 seems better you would tempest III which I thinkis huge plus 2 xtra feats and +1 str for 2 aps from the fighter .....not bad .... xtra feats I would suggest stunning blow over cleave or gtr cleave and if you do want ac at times you could always choose CE

I could be wrong, but i think there was some talk that Dwarf will get racial enhancement Dwarven Defender. Something like any Elf can be Arcane Archer. There was also something about WFs and better dragonmarks.

If this is true, then you have no need take Fighter levels just because of Defender PrE.

You are missing UMD, +1 in Tumble would be a good idea and nothing wrong with better Balance.
Listen skill is not very usefull. Spot is also so-so.

As far as Tempest is concerned, I agree with the conv. wisdom: splash for I, or go ranger 18 for III, don't mess with II. I gets you 10% attack for just 6 levels of ranger, but going another 6 levels just gets you +1 to hit (the shield ac bonus isn't worth 6 levels). Yes, you get slightly better barkskin, etc, but tempest III is so much more useful that you're better off going big or going home
