    Default Feats Nobody Uses

Please correct me. The purpose of this thread is that I'm hoping someone will show me a use for one of these feats that I am unaware of.

These are the feats nobody uses.

    Acrobatic
    Alertness
    Athletic
Diehard - only as a free feat
    Discipline
    Exotic Weapons:Great Crossbow
    Great Fortitude
    Hamstring
Improved Critical: Bludgeoning or Thrown Weapons
    Improved Feint
    Improved Shield Bash
    Improved Sunder
    Mobile Spellcasting
    Mobility - unless a requirement
Point Blank Shot - only if required
    Power Critical
    Precision
    Quick Draw
    Resilience
    Resist Poison
    Sap
    Self Sufficient
    Shot on the Run
Skill Focus: any except UMD, Haggle, Intimidate
    Slicing Blow
    Snake Blood
    Stealthy
    Tower Shield Proficiency
    Two WEapon Blocking
Weapon Focus - unless it's free (edit: or required for something else)

    Eschew Materials
Spell Focus: Abjuration, Conjuration, Evocation, Transmutation
    Greater Spell Focus: same

    Deflect Arrows

    My, that is a lot.

Edit: 'That used to be good back in Mod *...' Doesn't really count.

Default This Space Saved for the Winning Answer

    The best answers so far:

Web is a conjuration! - Thanks Nevthial, I think this is much overlooked.
Improved Feint gives everyone a sneak attack, followed by a cleave can debuff a whole group - Nice combo, I never thought of that. Thx
Sap - There's no save if you make the hit. With a good group this can be a super feat. Yet very few take it. Thx Depravity
Precision - can be used to avoid aggroing mobs with DR while killing them with vorpal, nice Mr. Cow

I judge these to be the most original ideas in the thread so far. I gave reputation points to each of you.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and experience; I can't wait to try some of these myself.

My Big F'n Stick toon uses Imp Crit: Bludgeoning.

Also, a guildie of mine is looking into a 5% weighted maul barb.. so I imagine he'll be using it.

I have used both sap and precision. Not to mention imp crit: bludgeon on my big stick character. In fact, he's got sap too. Good for caster hunting on multiple caster clusters.

My stealth characters w/out full rank stealth levels usually take stealthy first few levels, then go visit Fred.

    Reasoning for these:

Sap - 18 (? forget the time, too lazy to look it up) second mesmerize, no save, just for hitting. Usefulness is somewhat dependent on teammates, but this feat is insane if everyone in a group has it.

Precision - even with subtle backstabbing, sometimes you just can't keep from pulling aggro away from the "dps builds". I use it as a nother aggro control tool. Precision on a crippling strike rogue gets you more sneak attacks with strength damage. Doesn't help your kill count, but it does help the rest of the party - essentially any crippling hit with enfeebling weapons gives the entire party a stacking dr 1/ against that mob.

Well most of the list is a wasteland to be sure...but I actually have taken and used the following:

Precision - the extra +4 to hit was very useful back in the days of Drow Blackguard in Tempest Spine to ensure I was landing with my Cursespewer of Destruction, among other things. At higher levels I eventually swapped it out.

Quickdraw - for the small speed boost to weapon swapping when you are a toolbox of weapons. ON a feat starved toon, nah. On a fighter, you can find a spot for it. Now once you get an UBER weapon so the toolbox no longer matters as much, swap it out.

Tower Shield Proficiency - A melee based cleric at early levels. A tradeoff between easy defense and a slight hit to attack. Non-proficient really hurts. Once you get a Madstone shield, swap it out immediately.

Skill Focus: Thieves skills like Disable for a bridging boost until you no longer need it.
Skill Focus: Negotiator for the True Hagglebots. (Stacks with SF: Haggle)
    Sarlona - The Ko Brotherhood :Jareko-Elf Ranger12Rogue8+4E; Hennako-Human Cleric22; Rukio-Human Paladin18; Taellya-Halfling Rogue16; Zenako-Dwarf Fighter10Cleric1; Daniko-Drow Bard20; Kerriganko-Human Cleric18; Buket-WF Fighter6; Xenophilia-Human Wiz20; Zenakotwo-Dwarf Cleric16; Yadnomko-Halfling Ftr12; Gabiko-Human Bard15; lots more

I agree, those two do not belong.

Negotiator isn't a Skill Focus feat...

Negotiator is not a skill, and therefore does not have it's own skill focus.

It's a feat on its own, like Alertness (which happens to be on his list because it's useless).

    Default Quick Draw, Tower Shield

    RE: Tower Shield
Perhaps I am wrong about the Tower Shield. I don't see them a lot in the PUG's I play in. Maybe it is more popular among the more skilled/experienced players. In general Tanking and intimdation and high AC are rare in PUG's. It usually only happens if you happen to pick up a loose player from one of the elite guilds.

    RE: Quick Draw
I have tried Quick Draw a couple of times. What I found was that the slow part of switching weapons is me, the player. Maybe if I were a better player of had my hot keys set up better. My stick fighters (both of them) have every qstaff I can think of except greensteel (I hate the shroud). Yet I went to Fred and traded off Qick Draw on both of them. Am I doing something wrong?

Weapon Focus: Every Warchanter, Arcane Archer and Deepwood Sniper will have a weapon focus feat. Come Mod 9 every Kensai build will have the feat.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

Actually every fighter who cares about dps of anykind will take weapon focus... it is a needed pre-req for weapon specialization (+2 damages) and greater weapon specialization (another +2 stacking damage) and I believe greater weapon specialization is use for the two +1 damage weapon spec enhancements also... thus +6 damage total along with +5 from power attack (+11) allows them to at least rub shoulders with barbs, rangers and paladins in damage output. Without it they're just a punching bag in comparison to the other melee. Kensai requires Superior Weapon Focus.

I'm also quite sure every rogue acrobat and unarmed monk have IC: bludgeoning - if not they need to reroll or switch it in.

Man, I hope Jukob gets in here for this thread.
I bet he could make a character limited to that list of feats and still bring his canopener.

I have two thief acrobats and neither uses the quarterstaff. The reason for acrobat, in my opinion, is for the immunity to knockdown, increased run speed, clickie boost to dex (AC/to-hit). I hardly believe either of those are in need of the bludgeoning feat. Seriously, a radiance rapier and IC: piercing is much more useful on a rogue (anything).

I second this as I am leveling a 5% weighted maul barb myself. I also have a tactics build fighter that uses Sap. He uses sap as the third tactic, trip the first guy, stunning blow the second and sap the third. Of caurse Sap can ne a pain to use in a party since hitting the sapped mob wakes them back up, but for solo, when you are seperated from your party, or you are with a party that knows whats going on, then it works great as there is no save for mobs that can be affected.

If I made the list, I would put it on the list.

It's useless, except for when it is a prereq to something good. Same applies for Mobility and Spring Attack.
