The crappiest MMO I've ever played (on a money/time ratio) is the most popular. I don't even have to tell you which one that is, it's that bad. And yet they make millions and are not going away any time soon. The best MMO I have ever played was an early incarnation of Saga of Ryzom. It was (and still is) the best and most realistic MMO ever. I don't think it even exists now.

In game, there's always the infamous KA. They always seem to have members on whatever the time, and they don't seem to be going away anytime soon. Whatever happened to PWNY? they were good.

I don't recall saying reknown measured a guild's ability to do a job, I thought I said it was an achievement.
How do you figure your RL examples are in any way applicable to how renown works in this game? How is any RL example applicable to how renown works in the game? I pose to you again... How does Renown, in it's current incarnation IN GAME measure any useful attribute that would indicate a guild's ability to get the job done, be a cool place to hang out, and be able to grow and adapt to the changing game.

    Smile Classy guilds...

I'm trying to think of guilds that are truly class acts, but I've not been circulating enough over the past year to give a recent opinion. Let's see how Webster defines classy:

    a : elegant, stylish <a classy clientele>
b : having or reflecting high standards of personal behavior <a classy guy> <a classy gesture>
    c : admirably skillful and graceful <a classy outfielder>

I'm thinking definition b is perhaps the relevant one. Which Thelanis guilds rate such an accolade?

I'm not sure that any guilds qualify as classy. Many have very classy players (Legion being no exception). But each and every guild I have run with has had some less than classy moments--my own included. I'd tend to rate some guilds classier than others--but even that can change over time. Some are classier because they have guild policies and attract the type of players that foster classiness. But at the same time, I tend to find that the classiness can ebb and flow depending on the leadership (not just the leader--but the range of people that take on leadership roles). If the leadership (or whoever is influencing the culture of the guild at any particular time) is classy, the guild tends to be at a classy highpoint. So classy culture + classy leadership = classier guild.

The idea of a classy guild is interesting to me. Once upon a time, I pondered putting together such a guild. Oh, I sat down and wrote up guild policies and procedures, and I considered who might be in such a guild. I wanted a group of skilled players with a love for the game and a fondness for their fellow Thelanians who also had a boatload of diplomacy/tact, and a ton of patience.

Anyway, I'd really like to see the rise of a supreme classy guild filled with friendly killers that have no desire to treat anyone badly and also have the patience to appear as if they never do. It would be great to see a guild tag flying that guaranteed a high quality player and a cordial experience.

    Cheers,

    E.

That would be nice. The fact that it hasn't happened makes me wonder whether it is possible.

I know plenty of players that would fit the model. But I wonder whether they would be happy in such a guild. A few reasons they might not be:

    1) many of the nice/uber players take some pride in their uber niceness. Being around others might make them feel less special or set up a competitive environment they won't like (the fact that they are uber likely means they are competitive on some level).

    2) niceness and uberness are relative. Trying to define a guild around these may create drama in that those at the fringes of qualifying for either criteria may feel fearful/guilty about their qualifications or may be pushed out by the nicer or more uber members.

    3) highly competent people tend to undervalue their own competence. This will potentially amplify the issue raised in point 2 above.

    4) a lot of the nice/ubers may like the diversity/danger/excitement of being around less nice ubers. An all nice guild might be too boring (for some).

    5) a lot of nice/ubers might like being around less nice people so that they can influence them to be better--if everyone is already nice, one of their purposes for being may be lost

    6) a lot of nice/ubers have strong loyalty--and have strong relationships with their current guilds that they would not be willing to break.

I agree. Although in my spin on it, the guild would have a strong PUGing presence which would help mitigate one or two of the points. It would have been a goto kind of guild. Want a capable player that quests with a smile? Go to guild xxxxx. There was no thought of playing in isolation.

    bah... nm

you can't find such in Real Life, can't find it in any church, And yet you think you can find it in an MMO.

There are good and bad in all groups, and there is good and bad in all people.

It is the nature of man.

Just like it is in man's nature to make excuses... "it's not my fault."

Im sure you guys are great. I mean REALLY GREAT, according to your boasts, but I tend to play with people who are just here to have fun.

One Major mana pot per hour for a few zerg runs? All I can say is wow!

I will however still accept Legion members into my party, hoping that they are one of the cool ones.

    Your welcome.

LOL cuz we dont play for fun?

I have fun building a creating charcters and zerging quests solo that usualy takes a full balanced party x5 longer to do... that fun for me

Bumbeling around a quest with no clue wile grouping with other players, being lost for hours on end while contribiting nothing or being a complete detrament to the party chances of succes is something I find very offensive, and unfun and would not even do to people I don't like much less call it fun and hope to find friends this way...

Oh so that is why I am not an asset to the party, and a huge burden to the group, because I am not in the only guild on Thelanis that matters. Please forgive me Master. *Bows Humbly* I will spend every waking hour saving Mana potions so I can witness the glory that is LEGION... for a day.

They do Shrouds in 10 mins. So if you happen to have 144 characters, you can put them all on Shroud timer within the 24 hours. Should net you quite a few larges and you'll more than likely get your pots back as well.

Good idea, then we will be able to help you get to the suny side of Korthos and have access to the Harbor. And get you into the 6-man raid called Water Works.

Gee... *cough cough* I can hardly wait to sign up ... reminds me of the last guild I was recruited in, then informed most politely, that I had to pay 10k plats per month to remain a member.... Ahhh the joys of being poor and gearless, now those were the days

And I woke up to be told what from my "Guild Leader" ?? Whhaaatttt ?
