    Default making PMs public

it is taboo in ddo forums to repost or quote PMs sent by other players into the public forums. here i quote the divine law

i can forsee how removing that clause can wreck havoc. but exceptions should be allowed. in my almost 3 years in ddo forums, i've entered countless of arguments with other posters. some nice, some ugly

there have been a few times where a poster who disagreed with my views continued the subject in PMs and then later on take an entirely different approach in public forums. often, these posters will try to project an "art thy holy" attitude, frequently masquerading as some messiah or savior. worst still is they even try to incite the masses through misinterpreting what others have posted. a tiny proportion even tries to undermine the credibility of other forum goers

i feel that in such instances, PMs concerning the topic should be allowed to be shown. this is meant to troll or flame other but for the purpose of TRANSPARENCY. again i state, this is my view. what of yours?

Yah, I did that once and learned my lesson hopefully the person who sent it learned theirs as well.
Transparency is a problem but I wont take being harassed either and in that instance I felt justified to post it just to make my point.
However the 2 points that came with it... lol, yeah.

For what it is worth, I see too often people taking one sentence from a long post and taking it completely out of context for no reason other than to troll.
I can do without that **** for sure.

sorry if I'm not making sense this morning, I'm very hung over lol.

Sorry, I do disagree, despite the fact it will give you ground against your sworn enemey "Q" (stick with Hobgoblins they go down faster with arrows).

They are known as private messages for a reason....

This does not stop you from re-typing it though...

Nuff Said. If the person decided to send a PM then he or she did so for a reason. Its A PrivAte Message. I would not disrespect anyone by posting the PM in public wether its a friend or foe.

PMs can be shared via other PMs, you know.

That's what the forward button is for.

I say make em public. Hell, why would anyone be chicken excrement enough to send a message via PM that they wouldn't send in public?

    Unless....

Maybe they sent something dumb in private like an attack on an upstanding member of the community, and they were scared a lynch mob would hound them down. I don't know, like attacking Aspenor, or Mythe, or Borror0.

    Or...

Maybe they were trying a slow handed "bonding" trick with the recipient of their pm, like trying to imply that the rest of the forum goers are all dumb a$$ and only the two of THEM got the big picture.

To me, hey, what I say to your face I say to your face. Public, private, whatever. Unless of course we are refering to THOSe posts between me and... A gentleman never tells.

On one hand, Private Messages should be Private.
On the other hand, you should never say something in a PM that you wouldn't say out loud. I personally believe that if someone is rude or disrespectful or down right stupid in a PM it should be allowed to be shared.

The exception is if a PM contained something personal that the sender specifically wanted to keep private.

Who's private messages would be next to be passed around to anyone? How could that person doing so be trusted with private conversations in the future, how many other conversations has said person passed around?

Not sure I would ever trust someone admitting it would be ok to do, openly. No matter what excuse they came up with for doing it.

Well ya know Quanafail, the chance of you and me ever becoming intimate is so remote, I can live without your trusting my PMs.

Real men are willing to support their views no matter who's around to hear them. Just saying...

Arguably the same reason someone would actively seek to keep their characters unknown. Right, PS?

In my opinion, if you're not willing to face the consequences of what you say, you probably shouldn't be saying it.

Or the situation was already handled so there is no need to continue with it. If you trust someone who openly wants to discuss private matters, when will it be you that it is done too?

For the most part, it is because they are too chicken to risk infractions.

I'm sure my views are pretty transparent already, but rules oppressing free speech should not exist in any form.
