    Question Alignment Respec Discussion Thread

    Hi All,
Did you level a True Neutral Barbarian only to realize later that you can't use that +3 Transmuting Greataxe of Pure Good on Arraetrikos?

Did you roll a DEX-based character in Mod 4 as Neutral Good only to realize that you can't get that extra bump to AC from a Monk splash now?
I'd like to hear some input from the forum community on the topic of alignment respecs. If possible, please hold your comments on class change, skill change, or other respecs for another thread.

    • Would you like to see an alignment respec option in the future? Why?
    • How would you like to see the alignment re-spec implemented? Some have suggested as a reward or turn-in option for a specific quest / chain / favor. Others have suggested as an option for buying with points in the DDO Store. Any support for one vs. the other and/or other thoughts?
    • In your opinion, does the option of an alignment respec damage your feeling about the game and how it's played?

Any and all comments regarding the subject are welcome. I don't know how many people would actually benefit from this, but I think it's a worthy option for the 2 situations described above (alignment-based gear and/or class restrictions on alignment that didn't exist in the game at the beginning).

Personally, I'd like to see alignment respecs come sooner rather than later provided there is community support for the capability. My sincere hope is that alignment respecs can be decoupled from a full respec system which could be much more complicated to implement.

True and certainly good advice, but two things in response:

    • New players may not realize that certain alignment choices may lock out gear or class decisions at much higher levels, etc. This is part of the education process, but it's hard to undo some mistakes in this game without rerolling. That's a painful price to pay for the average new / casual player.
    • The game often changes in ways which alignment choices may be a consideration (Monk class is one example, new desirable Raid loot with alignment restrictions is another possible issue). These changes may affect the potential of characters which were rolled years ago and otherwise perfectly acceptable.

These are situations which, to me, make the option of an alignment respec desirable.

IMO I think alignment respecs should be implemented by questing, like perhaps certain quest could bump you 'x' points towards an alignment (like in Neverwinter Nights).

I like this... I wonder how many times I would have to run Running with the Devils to get an Evil alignment! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!
