I can't wait for that. If they can pull it off I'll be there.

As a person who owned and created many NWN and NWN2 servers with the Aurora Toolset and it's expansions, I am very much looking forward to this as well.

Well, you're going to have to wait. 2 years off? Hardly worth mentioning at all.

And Atari is still involved, sounds like even more than DDO. Bad idea to keep your hopes up for that one.

Please note that Atari is only the publisher, not the developer. The skill of Cryptic Studios development team (and WotC meddlings during development) will have a bigger impact on the games quality and success more than Atari being the publisher (although Atari could pull the whole WE HAVE TO SHIP NOW NO MATTER THE STATE THE GAME IS IN thing because they are hurting for cash.)

I love how the commenters emphasize their repulsion to the Eberron world, as opposed to Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk or just a generic D+D world.

That is the biggest reason none of my RL friends play too. I know it has gone round and round, but no matter how much I love this game I always wonder what might have been if that choice went differently.

Atari has aquired Crypic. Its not like DDO where they are "just" the publisher.

2-3 years sounds like just enough time for Atari to put too much on its plate (Star Trek, Champions, NWN, exc) and run itself into the ground lol. I seriously doubt this game will ever be released, and if it is it will be post demise of Atari.

My prediction with nothing but Ataris poor track record to back it, take it or leave it.

It would definitely be worth a look, especially for older gamers who grew up playing pnp in that setting (GreyHawk).

Yep, the idiotic choice to do DDO in Eberron almost made me not start playing it. I think this was the direct result of WotC believing they would be able to sell lots of Eberron campaign books and material for the PnP products if DDO became a hit.

NWN = Neverwinter Nights aka Neverwinter in the Forgotten Realms. I would love (and had a Free City of Greyhawk MUD) to see the Shield Lands again, but will have to wait!

If Cryptic's doing it, I would guess it's 4th ed, forgotten realms and using Cryptic's MMO engine basis.

Though I guess Atari/Cryptic could license Bioware's NWN code, tune it to 4th, and tune it for MMO's, but given their take for Star Trek online, I'd more likely guess Cryptic will just make 4th ed on their own engine.

Seems to be the new Atari strategy: Take all your licenses and make varying MMO's on Cryptic's MMO engine. Given Cryptic's current MMO's... not really ones I'm interested in playing... much more interested in Bioware's Star Wars Old Republic. Seems like a new fresh take on MMO's. What else would you expect from Bioware?

As to a new D&D game setting: I like Eberron... it's newer, it's not the overdone FR... and they probably wouldn't bring back Darksun since it's no longer being published. I'm happy where DDO is... just wish it had MORE Eberron flavors.

Shame they cannot pick another world or setting that has not been done or run in the ground.

    Ravenloft?
    Al-Qadim?
    Planescape??? [Steampunk/Vitorian mmo!!]
    Spelljammer?

Just something to make it stand out from the other MMO's out there.

Well we already had Darksun Online, though it was a long, long time ago. I played that for a bit.

Interesting though, probably why Turbine/Atari could work out a deal - as Atari's moving on to a new D&D MMO.
