    Smile I started playing D&D at 8

I started playing D&D in 1985. My parents thought D&D was satanic, so I had to hide my books under my matress. Here is my D&D resume.

I literally know everything there is to know about D&D. What do you want to know? I wrote my history capstone paper - 20 pages- on rule changes from Advanced to 2nd edition D&D and the way that D&D changed the world. I got an A. I am happy to sit down for an interview if you are serious. I have a room full of D&D rule books, supliments, literature and toys all D&D related. I also spend about 40 hours a week playing DDO. DId I mention that I have a beholder tatooed on my sholder? It is the one from the 1st edition Monster manuel. I went to Dave Arneson's wake and have his old cell # in my cell phone still. I defy you to find a bigger D&D geek than me!

(edit here, it's been a long time since I thought about a lot of things. I recall comeliness was sorta ad-hoc added after the initial books, but not when precisely. I didn't think it was even listed for the attributes for the original book...no clue about later printings)

No idea if it's mint condition. I know i *used* my books to play although they've been gathering dust for a LONG time.
Todd And Troll sell on the high end for original D&D collectibles but if a person wants it they usually are willing to pay a bit higher. I've seen two bidders run up the price way beyond what they would get from a resale simply because they get stuck in that I have to have it at any cost mentality.

This site here is great for finding out the true value of OD&D items. They have the Cthulhu listed as $52.00 US if in mint condition.

    Part 1, Time 1:00 - 1:03

It was filmed at Collector's Corner in DeSoto, TX, after a presentation by Bill Deer at our high school (his participation was later removed from the story).

The other kids were all friends of mine.

The DM was bitten by the store owner's doberman so many times, he nicknamed him "meat."

Wow, I had a lot of hair, then.

Sometimes I read stuff like this and I realize just how "cool" my parents are. DnD has been a family game for us since 1983 boxed sets and all. Heck even my Grandma used to play before she moved away. And, yes this does mean my family and I still meet up for a PnP session every week.

LOL I hate the new ****.. 4e is a stinking pile of lets play PnP WoW. Yes I remember when having a lower armor class was better I started with DnD (Basic) around 1980 and the moved to AD&D 1.0. I also still have the original Monster Manual and my friend in Germany(our DM) still has the original Deities and Demigods with all the copyrighted stuff. We used to pool our allowances to buy the books so they belonged to everyone, but the DM usually kept them at his house. I remember I wrote my first computer program on the C64 for DnD. I converted the ThAC0 charts for players and monsters into a program where you could basically type the AC, the Dice Roll and it would tell you whether or not it hit. Made it easier than looking it up in the chart.

I, like many others here, have played all editions of D&D/AD&D.

I've also played the Gold Box games. Pool of Radiance was my favorite. In fact, I have an old Compaq DOS PC with Windows 3.11 installed that runs very well. This PC is dedicated to the old Gold Box games that I still play (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Pools of Darkness, Hillsfar, the Dragonlance setting Gold Box games, etc.)

Would love to be interviewed too!

That's what I remembered - it was in UA but I didn't want to stick my neck out because I was uncertain. Guess I should have gone with my first instinct...

Geez, I'd almost forgotten all the witchhunts for D&D to be the cause of suicide. Sadly, the game is just another on the long list of things to blame other than the individual.

Yeah, I sold mine about a year ago, and got a little more than that, but I originally bought it in 1994, from a convention dealer.

I looked at the spine of the book and it had hardly (1-2) places on the end where the colored cover was allowing any white to peek through. The sides of the spine had no cracks like no one had ever opened it.... I bought it for $30.

I kept it in a dragonskin since 1994, until I sold it on ebay last year.

I had a post-edited copy already, but at the time you werent considered a collector if you didnt have a copy of THAT book.

My recollection of when UA came out, and Deities and Demigods came out is shady, but I remember them talking about a negative Charisma or Comeliness that some evil gods had, and I thought it was Comeliness in Deities and Demigods.

I think you'll find alot of us here.

I started with Basic back in mid 70's, went to 1st edition, 2nd edition, then made our own 1.5 edition (took some rules from 1st and 2nd edition to make our own rule set). I have not set down for a pen and paper game for about 3 years or so (original crew no longer has the time necesary to dedicate towards gaming). I was DM for the same campaign for 7 real years. Still have most of the original books.

I have played probably 95% of the games listed below

(never played the NWN AOL version, or the last 2 NWN2 expansions, or the NWN Mobile.)

On my computer now at home I have BG1, BG2, Temple of Elemental Evil, Some of the old SSI Krynn games, Eyed the Beholder, NWN2, IWD2 and Menzoberanzan. Can still run most if not all of the old games using DosBox.

its actually quite easy if you know how to take short cuts. say a thac0 11 fighter with +5 in attack bonuses against an enemy of AC -6. so what we did was just to reverse the sign on the bonuses and AC and add them to thac0 to get the number we have to roll to hit, ie 11-5+6 = 12
If you want to know why...

I played 1st edition and 2nd edition D&D. I have also played several D&D PC games and read many a novel but mostly in Forgotten Realms. However I have read some Dragonlance, Ravenloft and Greyhawk.

Dragonlance as a campaign setting never blew my skirt up. I actually really liked the Greyhawk Campaign the most but I thought the deep backstories for Forgotten Realms was spectacular, but sometimes almost too much.

Do you mean white box? That is what my first D&D set was.

yeah its was easy and pretty automatic back then but I find new players find it easier and it makes more sense for better ac to be a postive number
