    Default Spell Point / Damage Ratio Guide

    Objective:

    How to deal the most damage with limited spell point pool? What is the best damage/sp ratio in ddo spells? This guide aims to answer the above question. Focus will be placed on damaging a single target, and a set of damage spells will be selected for comparison.

    7 Ratio of Damage / SP for each spell is represented: Base, Emp, Max, Emp + Max, and Reduced SP Cost of Emp, Max, Emp + Max

    Base - Base Damage
    Emp - Empower On, extra 15 sp
    Max - Maximize On, extra 25 sp
    Both - Empower and Maximize On, extra 40sp
    Reduced Sp Cost of Emp - Empower On, extra 7 sp
    Reduced Sp Cost of Max - Max On, extra 12 sp
    Reduced SP for Both - Both On, extra 21 sp

    Results:

    Magic Missile / 5.35 /3.31 /3.19 /2.78 /4.87 /5.07 /4.78

    The following is the detail of the analysis method:

    Damage calculation is based on the following formula

    (base damage) * (1+enhancement% + potency%) * (critical factor) * (metamagic factor), round down to nearest integer

    Base Damage is found by experimentation with no potency and no enhancement

    1 + enhancement + potency is assumed as 1.9

    Critical factor is assumed as 2.75

    Metamagic factor for Emp, Max and Both are 1.5, 2 and 2.5

    For each spell, each possible outcome from die roll will apply the above formula to find out the weighted damage for non-critical/critical

    then damage of die number will be averaged, assuming all die roll has the average at the center

    For sp cost reduction,
    Emp : -6 from enhancement, -2 from ring of thelis
    MAx : -9 from enhancement, -4 from glove of glacier


    Die Roll for spells:
    Magic Missile : 5 x ( 1d2 + 3 )
    Scorching Ray : 3 x ( 4d3 + 12 )
    Force Missile : 4 x ( 2d4 + 8 )

    thanks for the guide. I made a similar table at:

    In my table, i used the highest damage rather than average as the base damage. e.g. for MM, it's 5 x (1d4+1) = 25. for your average, do you actually refer to the mean? i.e. 12.5 for MM.

    Indeed, SP Efficiency is not really a concern to me except in solo cases.
