    Default To the general community:

Can someone tell me why people feel the need to post on the forums that they are leaving the game? Turbine KNOWS whether or not you have an active subscription. You can say good bye to your friends in game and/or on your guild website.

The only reasons I can think of is that people are trying to garner sympathy, draw attention to themselves, punish turbine somehow, or just to stir up some trouble one last time.

    well....stop it.

If you are leaving the game because you are dissatisfied with some aspect of development, server population or something else that is affected by the number of active subscriptions and resulting revenue, driving away other potential ploayers with your whining is just making matters worse for the friends you are leaving behind.

So....my suggestion (finally) is to make the user populated portion of the forums unavailable to non-subscribers.

    I don't know.

I think some people might be put off by not being able to see what's being discussed in the Forums.

I know I'd be wondering what they're trying to "hide" if they were to do this, since I can't think of too many forums that don't let non-subscribers even SEE what's going on with user discussions and arguments.

I posted mine because EVERYONE has access to it.

Your statement is true that "Turbine knows". However, not everyone at turbine knows. I would bet that not even Tolero or Tarrant know how many active subscribers there are in this game. Generally companies only distribute general numbers to thier employees and even those may not be accurate since they will use statistics to hide the actual numbers in an effort to reduce employee unrest.

Posting on the public forums means that each an every person who could possibly be able to influence a decision at turbine has access to the information.

You can view this as "punishing turbine" if you want, however, from my experience, the only people that any company's management will listen to are employees of the company. If every employee at turbine knows that 5000 subscribers canceled this month, or even if they didn't cancel that those 5000 are threatening to cancel or are generally unhappy, then the managers at turbine are more likely to get this information and make a decision that will make thier customers happy.

Managers protect the company's bottom line.
Customer support representatives protect the company's customers.

By posting your dissatisfaction on the forums, you are helping make sure the company knows which way they are headed. If they choose to not change that course, then that is the fate you, the customer, have to live with.

Most companies pay lots of money to get feedback from their customers. We give it for free...heck we PAY to give it

Because Turbine’s “Why are you Unsubscribing?” questionnaire sucks. (I only know this because I used to subscribe then instantly unsubscribe before I got roped into the 2nd anniversary special pricing.)
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

    1) as quoted above.
    2) in case they really aren't reading that questionnaire, or discounting what it's telling them.
    3) to let their friends and guildies know why they'll be missing, in case they didn't get a chance in-game to tell 'em all.
    4) to vent, because it really feels awful to feel let down about something you like so much. The ones who don't really care aren't posting...it's the ones who love or hate the game who are usually vocal. Anyone who's been around for longer than the initial month probably doesn't hate the game.

Suggestion to Turbine: Have new character slots open up automatically based on months since account start date.
Update: EU+Store = close enough. Thank you.

    Well said...

I think they have some confused idea that Turbine will stop everything they are working on and come to that players rescue. "Oh please mister <game leaver> stay with us and don't leave we will go ahead and launch mod 9 right now".

    Gotta agree here.

One other thing, you assume that everyone here only has relationships with peeps in game on their server. But a forum community breeds its own relationships, good or bad. So if i have a friend I met on the forums on say Argo, but I play in Kyber, how would i possibly say goodbye in game?

Second, why should potential players not know the true state of the game? I think we do a disservice to a potential newb by shining it on, getting them to sub, so they can find out 3 or 4 months later there is a lack of content being released, and a lack of communication. Both of these problems predate the mod 9 debacle, they have been magnified because of it.

I say if you dont want to read goodbye threads, great! If you want to post a goodbye thread.....Great.
