    Default Skill Cap

    Hello,

I seem to recall that there is/was a ceiling on how much you can modify your skills (e.g. Haggle, Jump and UMD) after which point any further increases become meaningless. If this is the case, what is the current ceiling, and does it apply to all skills.

    Thanks for your help.

Jump used to not have a cap. that was back in the day where you could jump out of house J in a single leap.

I disagree, there are some jump points that with a 40 - 42 jump you can not get to. (one example is the pillar in Gianthold Tor) However with a high 46 - 48 or above that jump is easy to obtain.

I have heard the effective cap story before at 40 for jump but this is entirely player speculation there is nothing official on this from DDO.

There was something official about this, but that was ~2 years ago and is probably long gone now. Whether it is still relevant or not I have not tested, but the 40 cap used to be true for jump only.

I believe it was a hard cap when initially imposed, then later changed to a soft cap....so maybe it's possible to get an effective jump a little higher than 40, but not cost-effective. At any rate, that's the only skill I know if with a cap. For others, it's more a question of "What's the highest DC I need to be able to hit?"

Alright, cool. I was thinking of rolling a skill type character that attempted to hit some very high skill checks. Haggle was one that i really wanted to test out and will most likely do so on a human Bard with max. Charisma (when i get around to it). Thanks!

Could try sifting through the bard forum for that - I think there's at least 1 thread there comparing notes on how to get the highest possible Haggle.

jump is 50, the rest do not have a hard cap, just cap because of lack of things to add on to it.

Haggle has no cap, it is easy to test with buying and selling. Current highest levels for Haggle at level 16 approach the low 80's/

A game design reason to cap the benefits of jump involves designing quests. Since we do not have access to a user generated fly ability or spell, the designers can place mobs on pillars we cannot jump up to (Gnolls in Demon Queen for example) to they require spells and ranged attacks to handle. They can put design elements "just out of reach" in a quest (Far chest in SoS for example - although boundless leap could reach it I heard, but have never seen anyone pull off). Skills that occur outside of the geometry of the game or combat, have little reason to limit.
