I run into lowbie gear seldom... usually just when helping someone out with favor. When I do I toss it on the AH really cheap or just hop on over to Krothos and randomly hand it out.
My view though is low level gear you outgrow so quickly it really is not worth the efforts to hunt while low level. Now those which hold use well until mod or even level cap... yes that is what one should persue.
