A few questions for you crazy gamers....
Have you tried the game Vanguard that Sony put out about 2 years ago? Did you like it? What did/didn't you like about it?
If DDO were not around , which MMO would you be playing?

I tried Vanguard... I had some old DDO guild friends who went over and I bought it to spend time with em and try a new game...
I should know better than to mess with a Sony game, but there was peer pressure
I played too much Everquest so Vanguard had a lot of "oh yeah I remember that"... and then I would say "oh geez EQ did it better"...And I had gotten used to active combat which hurt me...
Massive world, good crafting, spell chains, push a button and watch the animation for your combat, no instancing, cookie cutter builds mostly... Not downing it, just wasn't what interested me anymore.
I have also tried: *turns around to look on the shelf*
- Age of Conan
- Star Wars Galaxies
- City of Heroes
- Hellgate London (not sure you can call it a straight MMO, but I tried it before its implosion)
- Eve Online
- Pirates of the Burning Sea
- Lord of the Rings Online
- Dungeon Runners
- World of Warcraft (for about 2 days 5 years ago... omg shoot me)
I think that is all the MMO's...
I thought about trying Darkfall but it has too much strategy to it...I am not into World building and conquering territory like that...
I also skipped Warhammer since I never cottoned to PVP...
What I would like to play is Star Trek Online and I am chomping at the bit for it...
There are not any other MMO's I can think of that are rattling my chain for attention atm...
Be interesting to see if anyone else comes up with one that will wet my appetite.
See ya in Stormreach,
-R
Thank you very much for the information.
I played EQ for 3.5 years then WoW for a month and now here for about 3 years...but I think my time here is nearing the end....at least for a little while.
I am super excited for Star Trek. January 2010 I think it is.

Tried WAR, like the rest a bit bored with DDO's content lag right now. Looking forward to:
- Mechwarrior via Crysis Engine (Battlefieldish with mechs)
- Star Wars The Old Republic MMO
- Dragon Age (Single Player Fantasy - the semi-successor to Baldur's Gate with a mature setting)
- Mod9-11's released in 2011 in DDO once they work out the current "issues".
Can't get hip about Star Trek Online till I hear how it plays. CoH/CoV weren't my cup of boring.

Casual DDOaholic
i've played about every mmo thats been touted as being rpg. some i played for trial, some i payed for. no other mmo except for ddo has held my interest for any longer than six months.
the only other game thats reached the same level for me is the Civilization series and i still play that every so often and have been playing for about 8 years now, in all its variations.
if i had to play another game it would be LOTRO and Civilization, until something like DDO made its way around. DDO is still by far, despite is shortcomings, the best there is atm out there, and for me at least, there is nothing coming out this year that i've seen or played that is remotely close.
imo,

The only other MMO I've ever played was Diablo / Diablo II. I'm not a huge MMO enthusiast, but I played P&P back in AD&D days so DDO caught my interest mainly for that reason. Over 2 years later and I'm still here despite events of the last few months
I may actually try out Star Wars: The Old Republic when it's released. We'll see.
Eaux ~ Crankh ~ Yoomaykmee ~ Gwalchmai ~ R.I.P. all others
AoK ~ Putting the COLOR in Argonnessen since 2006
If Star Wars the Old Republic has an active combat system like DDO then I'll be all over it. Neither WoW nor AoC nor LotR did anything for me.
Upcoming PCS and deployment will put me out of game here...sadly the mod 9 (and hence mod 10) delay is making it easier to leave.

I have been keeping my eye on STO since last year. We got one of our old DDO Devs over there. Anyways, they aint got a release target date set yet have they? Just the rumors of "maybe" end of this year or next. I swear they better have Romulians for start races or else. o.O

Thanks very much for the responses.
I am definitely going to be playing Star Trek online when that releases, but I need something to keep me entertained in the meantime and it sure isn't DDO/LoTRO/WoW.
I also have an interest in the new Star Wars but again, not out yet. *stomps feet*

huxley sounds interesting and is currently in beta signups, but it is more sci fi fantasy and fps.
i personally woudn't mind trying Aion when it is released, it sounds original and the characters are suppose to have a lot of depth and variance.

To name... Most I played...
Everquest, Everquest 2, Asheron's Call, Asheron's Call 2, City of Heroes/Villains, Tantra, Star Wars Galaxies, Eve Online, Planet Side, World War II, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, Fury, Warhammer, Conan, Ragnarok, Anarchy, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ultima, Dark Age of Camelot, Guild Wars, Lineage, Mu, Final Fantasy XI, The Matrix, MapleStory, Flyff, Archlord, Ryzom
I think that's it, atleast that's all the icons I have left on my desktop
After what SOE did to SWG I most likely wont ever play another of their games, I have tried wow, aoc, war, Darkfail, none grab me, if it wasnt for DDO I would either play the SWG emulator or nothing.
Beware the Sleepeater
aye i still feel the bite of soe even now as i was a maser ranger/rifleman in swg...both traders now long dead
that said i did have a lot of fun in EQ2 but only cause they have pixies as a playable race, lol.
but in answer to op, theres nothing really thats exciting me much atm mmo wise. LOTRO is ok as i find it a nice happy casual environment that is a good time waster that dosent feel like a grind.
DDO is great but the curent direction isn't exciting me much - to me the game was the best when lvl cap was at 10. then skill mattered and the gear wasnt so over the top like it is now.
Star Wars the old republic is what i'm eagerly awaiting for though.

Somedays your the Windscreen.

1. New Star Wars MMORPG
The rumors about BioWare working on a massive multiplayer online roleplaying game based on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series were given new life when it was announced Tuesday that BioWare and LucasArts had joined into an alliance to create a “ground-breaking interactive entertainment product” - a super-exciting way of saying “we’re making a video game.” They also created an equally vague website, LucasArtsBioWare.com, which consists solely of the press release and links to BioWare’s mailing list sign-up form and their forums.
