    I would have to say...

    1. Full metal Jacket.
(This has been said to be the closest depiction of boot camp in the 60's by any movie.)

    2. A clockwork Orange. (Malcom Mcdowell was positively evil!

(after all... he did kill captain Kirk... )

    3. 2001 A Space Odyssey. (This movie is still Awesome - even today.)

    "A Clockwork Orange"
    "The Shining"
    "Eyes Wide Shut"

2001 was great, and had the benefit of Arthur C Clarke overseeing the screenplay. But I think it had the typical Kubrickian "Long scene with overbearing subtlety" problem, which also plagued Barry Lyndon. Beautifully done, but took sooooooooooooo long to develop.

That's why it was 100x better than the TV adaptation (King did the teleplay for that, IIRC, ergo, .

As for the movies, same 3 as Pfamily (including the "maybe in that order" comment).

Kubrick's directing encouraged me to forget that "The Shining" was written by Steven King.
Never was a fan of King's work. I agree with this. .

    hmm.

Well, I say Clockwork and Full Metal were about even for me. I've watched each many many times.

His other movies are great though. "Love the bomb" Was amazing, as well as 2001.

Gotta defend Steven King though.....but just a little bit. Most of his works are only mediocre to me, but the book, and Movie IT was amazing. nothing like Tim Curry in a clown suit scaring children.

    Red face Defending King

I have to come to defend Steven King, there are great great books / movies like

    The Shinning
    Misery
    Shawshak redemption
    The Green Mile
IT (Although the last 10 minutes in the movie were not quite nice)
    Stand By Me
    Secret Window

    Just to name a few
