Thread: w/p comparison

  1. #1

    Default w/p comparison

Was thinking and wanted to compare the effectiveness of w/p weapons.
It seemed like the best way would be to give them a rating based on the amount of CON damage they do in 20 swings on average. All #s assume improved crit but not anything like crit rage or kensi III. They also assume you hit on a 2 and confirm on a 1.

Please correct if the #s are wrong

Any Wounding weapon 19 (19 hits at 1 con each)
    Punctureing rapier 21 (3.5x6 crits)
    W/P Heavy pick 26 (19 wounding +3.5x2 crits)
    W/P Short sword/Dagger 33 (19 wouding +3.5x4 crits)
    W/P Rapier 40 (19 wounding +3.5x6 crits)

Any thoughts or math corrections are welcome

Daggers are 19-20 base crit like short sword so they should be identical.

Keep in mind that the numbers get further skewed by effects which induce auto crits (like FtS, Being Held, Stunned, etc) which makes the ON Crit effect of puncturing even more beneficial.

But also keep in mind that at lower levels, simple good DPS will still be quicker for most of the mobs you encounter. Giant in SC for example. Just swing away with a Giant Stalker Knife and you will kill a giant quicker than with wounding. W/P becomes THE choice when the HP far outstrip the CON, like out in the Refuge, or with mobs which have low CON compared to HP (like many Elementals).
