Do clerics come with -10% speed socks built in under the boots?
Even with 30% striding or haste they still seem slower than anything else.
Or is it a side effect that white icons can't jump?
no its to do with all those ui's that are on screen, it weighs the game down and makes you slow.
case in point........http://www.ddo1liners.co.uk/archives/059.jpg
Somedays your the Bug
Somedays your the Windscreen.
indeed. Strip down naked side by side a cleric and a rogue the rogue would likely win ......definately if the rogue is a halfling.
We're slower because we're multi-tasking. Ya know, actually thinking while we run.
Someone in the party has to...
Clerics are slower because they don't want the cleric zerging more than the wf barbarian
It's a holdover from first edition...
Remember the dex chart:
Here or lower you can only be a cleric
It takes time to rummage through a pack to find the wand, scroll, potion, or whatever that the zerging barb needs to cure the crud he acquired while playing in the bottom of that murky pool. Or to use the mana necessary to reattach his nearly-severed limb. Run ahead if you must...you know where the cleric will be if you need him/her. Just remember to leave them something nice in the chest...

I don't know what you're talking about. My cleric is ahead of the party most of the time and I have to turn around and heal all the stragglers

Seems to me many are slow because they didn't invest in Str and run at medium encumbrance... and don't bother carrying striders or haste clickies/pots.
You know. Speediness would make an awesome cleric capstone, much better than the one already set.

My experience is this:
Clerics seem so slow because they're always hanging back so far from the rest of the party. The majority of clerics hang back, healing, and managing the battle, and when the running starts after the fight, clerics are further back than the rest.
Conversely... most people have trouble keeping up with my evasive cleric, because he's always running, jumping through traps, and laying down blade barriers while trying to group up all the enemies.
But no... most clerics are left behind for reasons other than character running speed. Usually, they're more concerned with healing the other party members than getting the next objective accomplished, let alone reaching the next objective.
My clerics are slow because they're the characters I bring when I want to try a quest I've never done before. They spend most of their time lost and trying to catch up/find the rest of the group. Any other class, a PUG wants someone experienced, who knows the quest. Clerics, they'll take anyone high enough level & hope for the best
My cleric out runs a monk/barbarian sprint boosting.
