    Default DDO+Windows 7 Build 7100 64-bit+Nvidia = Disaster?

    Hello all,

Myself, always being on the cutting edge of technology, am running Windows 7, build 7100. (The RC that came out about two weeks ago; 64 bit).

Is anyone else running this OS with an Nvidia card? If so, what drivers are you using? I'm using (*insert latest driver here, updated today*) and am experiencing continuous screen tears while playing, forcing me to reboot the system. My card is 8600 GTS.

Anyone else have similar issues or idea on how to fix?

I'm using Windows 7 RC with an nVidia GTX 295. The drivers were recent as of April 30th and the game runs awesome for me.

I am running Windows 7 RC and a Nvidia 260. I backed the drivers off of the 'latest and greatest' to an older version. This has greatly reduced the amount of video artifacts I am seeing. Sometimes the newest driver is not the best for you.

To get this game to work under Windows 7 just like in Vista you need to install direct x 9.
Also if in doubt use Vista 64 bit drivers and it will the majority of the time work under Windows 7.

been working fine here on Windows 7 since January.. Nvidia has been pretty good with releasing win7 Beta drivers.. check via windows update or via their regular download page selecting win7 as the operating system..

If this is frustrating you to this point you should consider the fact that you are running a Beta OS that isn't supported by any software manufacturer at this point. To put it bluntly, you chose to run a system that was likely to have problems.

Meanwhile you are demanding a couple other community members provide a solution to your issue. My suggestion at this point is, Uninstall and install an OS supported by DDO and Nvidia drivers. Problem fixed.

Actually Windows 7 is supported by all the major hardware drivers and Nvidia is probably one of the best for its drivers to work in Windows 7. I have no problem helping out but as I said going to need to see some system info for us to trouble shoot this any further. (I understand there frustration when everyone else is working and you can't it can wear on your nerves.)

Default likely not the drivers fault

I use dnd online with an nvidia quadro fx 3500 and at home a 8800 ultra.

Graphical tearing CAN come from driver issues.

Tearing and artifacts are usually a result of excessive heat, and sometimes heat damage if it has gone one to long.
I had tearing problems in wow with a gf fx7300 / 7600 and went to an 8600 and no issues.

Cards can go bad. Try another graphically intense game. Fallout3 and Oblivion are great artifact causers if your card is hoopy.

Also take apart your machine and air it out with a can of air duster. Dust = Heat = overheating and graphical tearing.

If this is the case, you should be able to power your computer off for like 15 - 20 minutes. If DDO works fine for a few mins / hours your likely having an issue with overheating.

Lastly, check your ram with memtest86. Ram likes to randomly fail, even if it's brand new.

I am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate RTM on an SSD drive with an Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1Gb card using the latest, 8/19 or something drivers from Nvidia. Other than a weird "environment or stencil shadows causing freeze every 5 seconds" issue that only occurs in the Sub, this setup has worked flawlessly for me so far, its been a week since I built this system.
