    Default Voice Codec

Are we ever going to fix the voice codec that the game is using?

I hate to say it but it's very crappy that it hasn't been worked on since beta.

You still have to set all your volume levels to 0.01 to even hear the average person talking loudly into their mic.

It's true you do have to crank the volume on the voice compared to others, but I have everything else (yup, even DM voice) still turned on mine.

The only VC problem I have is that it is inconsistant. It either needs to autobalance or allow individual volume controls to deal with the fact some people are louder than others.

Currently have my "voice" volume at 100%, and all other volumes are at either .01 or .02, And still hard to hear some people when playing. (and yes my volume for windows and my headset are maxed)

Seriously. This is pretty annoying. Just having an individual volume bar by right-clicking a party member would make me do the snoopy dance.

I usually have the game sounds go through my speakers and the voice chat on my headphones. Most of the time that is fine.

Not to mention, all System volumes at 100%, Voice Gain at 100%, Voice Chat Volume at 100% and speakers at 50%(A system beep would blow your eardrums, which is why I disabled mine)...

Even then, half the people you meet you need to crank the volume to 80% on your speakers to hear them, while one person in group that pops in a comment here and there blows your mind at 480db.

This is why I type and listen to music. If you have something important to say, TYPE. Otherwise, I can and WILL ignore you. This is not your fault, Voice Chat user, it is the fault of the Voice Chat System. Those of you who say "But I can't type! My computer came equipped only with a Mouse and Headset!!" Go learn yourself a keyboard.

    Side Note: The Voice Chat issues were brought up during modules: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8..... I notice a trend.

There should also be a disclamer in the audio settings telling everyone to turn their mic boost on. Most people who are too quiet have not checked this box in their windows sound settings.

Its on by default when you install windows xp or vista if your microphone supports it. Unless you have specifically disabled it. so 90%+ already have it enabled.

People who do this are the ones that cause the massive feedback (i.e. echo).

Ones that do this and also have don't use "push to talk" are increasingly annoying...

I would very much like the voice volume issue corrected. It would improve the game considerably.

We had 4 of those in a Shroud group.

The feedback reached a level so high it blew 2 peoples' speakers and 1 persons eardrums.

If you have Voice Chat, and use either a Desktop Mic with Speakers(please put some distance between them... at least 4 feet), or use a headset with speakers, the following important instruction is for you:

OPEN THE OPTIONS MENU, SELECT VOICE CHAT, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU CHECK THE BOX MARKED "PUSH TO TALK", then if you haven't yet, set an easily accessed(during combat while casting spells or using abilities/Jumping/etc) key that you can readily mash when you have something important to contribute. Also be sure to keep your sound volume low enough that you don't attempt to kill entire continents with the sheer power of sound.

Yes, the voice chat is annoying, and can be physically painful under the right circumstances, but 480db?!

As with what others have said, I have every volume option set at 0.01 and still frequently have trouble hearing the majority of people.

Well its an effective way to hear some of the quieter people by having voice on headphones only. You do have to keep an eye on the volume of your speakers though as the sound is muffled to your ears but not to the mic.

Regarding 'push to talk' I think everyone should use that.

... Sound is just a pressure wave that is translated into 'sound' by the human (or other) auditory system.

So your saying the largest pressure wave in existance can only rank 194 dB?

Please stay on topic. This is about fixing the audio within DDO, Not about pressure waves. If you wish to continue this discussion please take it to a PM or create another topic.
