I just d/l and installed the latest nVidia drivers (released 4/30/2009) and I am having no problems at all.

As for the concept of Windows 7 RC: I began installing Windows 7 RC at 6:30pm last night, downloaded and installed sound card drivers, sound card programs, and video card drivers, downloaded and installed DDO high-res, and was on DDO by 8:30pm. Fast, clean, easy, and smooth.

I have been running windows 7 and ddo as long as it has been around.. In the beginning there were some requirements ( early on ) to allow admin access to the update client, otherwise it would not run, but as time went on it was cleared up, especially with the release of RC.

I did notice one thing though. Prior to the update ( windows update ) of the nvidia driver ( latest ) the video in the game was perfect even when running dx10 ( and it still is sorta ) once the update to the new drivers ( if you apply it ) however, shadows end up looking like millions of little ants running around ( running xfx 9600 gt 512 ) turning off MULTI PASS LIGHTING fixes this.

With this card I am able to run everything at max resolution, aa, etc.. with absolutely no stuttering or image problems ( again as long as MPL is off ) I think there is a problem with the driver ( seems feasible since the old one worked fine with dx10 )

so i'm guessing no one else had any problems updating in the launcher?

i'm getting an "There was an error generating the hash code for a patch file" when i attempt to update my install on Windows 7.

probably something stupid i didn't do yet...

edit: well i added dndlauncher.exe, TurbineLauncher.exe, and dndclient.exe to the firewall (Home/Work and Public) and it still cant do the hash thing. now to try something else.

edit2: hell, turning off the firewall and antivirus and turning down internet security didn't even change anything...

edit3: nm, cheated and got an already updated backup... wonder what happens when they patch?

    @Laith and others

If what your describing happen, then what you need to do is this.

Go into the ddo game folder and on the invoker, launcher, etc... anything ending in .exe you need to right click on them, go to compatibility tab and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. ( Do them all ) Then keep trying to get the launcher to run by running the program. You will get messages that the game cannot be run as an admin. Each time you run the start icon it will tell you the offending .exe file. Keep the subfolder open so that you can ONE at a time remove the compatibility RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR option. Eventually you will run the launcher and it will work. At this point then remove the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR from the rest of the .exe files ( you do this so that it does not cause problems with Vent PRIORITY later )

    HTH and HT makes sense..

The problem with the hash code has been happening fairly frequently to many users as of late. I had a problem a month ago and asked for help in the Technical section of the forums, but it seems Turbine doesn't know how to fix it.

The only way I have found to fix it is to download a pre-patched version of DDO Mod8. The link can be found in the Technical Assistance forum.

I saw the same thing last night and turned off Multi pass lighting per your post and it went away.

My experience for the first two hours of play was superior to Vista.

However, while running Threnal East part 3, I had 2 BSOD last night. (I made it back in game with 11 seconds left on the timer, I was lucky there anyway).

This was already done on the keyboard but not on the mouse. I did this but I am not real confident that will solve the problem. It will be tonight before I can play to test.

    Sorry for the long delay..

    According to my sources:

This Stop error message usually occurs during installation when there was an attempt in kernel mode to touch pageable memory at too high a process internal request level (IRQL). Typically, this error occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error include an incompatible device driver, a general hardware problem, or incompatible software.

However, I would start with uninstalling your video driver and making sure you have the latest version from whomever it is card you have. If it is an ATI, well you are on your own. If it is an Nvidia then let windows UPDATES take care of it.

PS.. I keep my machine pretty solid. What I mean by this is that I am the type of person who does firmware updates for my dvd burner... I like to keep things up to date. You might want to try some updates to the bios while you are at it.. HOWEVER, not knowing if this is 64bit or 32, amd or intel... well leaves a lot to be desired? Do you have proper cooling? Have you checked your memory for errors yet? Ever have this before?

    Good luck!

I updated my BIOS today. I was running one a little over a year old and the one I updated it with the latest which was released last week.
I also changed my power management from "balanced" to "High Performance" which I customized to make sure nothing is ever shut down. I use this primarily for gaming so I shut it down completely when I am done.
After I did this I logged in with my bank toon and then did some work around the house and checked once in a while to make sure I did not get logged out and it ran fine for 1 1/2 hours. Of course this is not like actually playing where the things are stressed but that will have to wait until tonight.

No criticals in the event log but 2 errors. VSS Shadow copy errors. I looked up the event id and ran a dos box command and it reported running ok. This according to the MS help page.

I ran memtest on my memory when I first got this pc in September 07, I was having issued with Vista. I got it to run well after a few months and haven't had real problems since.

So basically, I am going to play tonight and keep my fingers crossed and see what happens.

I have it installed on my computer.. and it runs fine.

Now to answer your questions. It is fairly easy to install on a hard drive. now it all depends on the operating system you are currently running to upgrade to Windows 7. If you are running Windows XP (any version) then you will need to do a fresh install and that means a hard drive wipe. If you are running currently Windows Vista (any version again) then you can do an upgrade but it is STILL recommended to do a fresh install.. again a wipe of the hard drive.

When ever you do a upgrade of an operating system like from XP to Vista and or Vista to win 7 it is always better to do a complete wipe and start a new. In this case it is always a good thing to back up your files on a regular basis and in this case you WILL NEED to do a back up for all your files.

As someone mentioned before if you have a second hard drive on your system then you can always do one of two things... back up to THAT drive from your primary drive and then do a fresh install on the primary.. or you can do an installation on the secondary drive dual boot OS's.. so you could potentially have two different operating systems then.

My personal recommendation is to do it on the primary drive and back up on a regular basis, which in this case will not take as long if you do it regularly and will always have access to files you may need later on. Not to mention bookmarks and such

Windows 7 x64 running flawlessly - love it. Regarding the hashcheck issue, don't even bother trying to fix it. You can't. Don't even get me started on this...

Yes, I play on 7 since beta and it runs very, very good. The only problem I found is when I log in the game changes all the personalized Win theme to default. The same happens with LOTRO. I think it's Win7 fault.

I have been running Win7 since the pre-beta version & it has been a great, stable experience, AMD & ATI on my main machine, so I can't speak for nvidia. 64 bit & other than the weird red water in 3barrel cove before mod 9, no issues whatsoever

I have using RC7 to play since I posted earlier in May, it has been great. I still have Vista on my other hd and the game installed there as well. Sometimes I have used that for the game just because I was already booted up there using quicken etc and I always regret it. Vista still crashes a lot for me. As soon as I get the retail version of Win 7, I will do a wipe on both HD's and install that as my only operating system. Of course one of the benefits of the dual boot system is I keep RC7 only for DDO and use Vista for doing everything else so that might make the comparision unfair.

I have an Nvidia 9800 GX2 and I am constantly getting hit with the nvlddmkm.sys bug. Google it to see how popular this defect is with Nvidia users. I have searched for a solution for this for 2+ months now to no avail. It hits me playing DDO, WoW and Age of Conan.

When the bug hits you, your screen will black out for a period of time. Most of the time it causes your game to crash, lockup, or the graphics to start going haywire. The warning message you get from Windows is:

"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Most people blame the bug on the Nvidia driver. Reverting back to older drivers doesn't fix the problem for me so it may just be a overheating problem with the video card.

Anyways, has anyone using Win 7 encountered the nvlddmkm.sys defect yet?

I ran DDO flawlessly on the Windows 7 beta client. Also, there was one of the developers for Windows 7 that was giving a video demonstration and the only icon (other than the standard windows icons) that was on his desktop was DDO.
