Drow Paladin Weapon of Choice Advise!

Ok, im a huge fan of drow pallies, and i have one. Its the class i liek and ill never change it...

ok, heres the deal.. ill obviously use rapiers or shortswords due to the +2 attack and +2 damage drows get.

Thing is... some ppl put guides up here in the forums saying that shortsowrd is better because of the vulkoor enhancement that gives +1 to hit...

well... why not rapiers? they do the same dmg, they have the same stats but rapiers are 18-20 crit, 15-20 with feats, and shortswords are 19-20, or 17-20 with feats...

so? why the hell would someone use shortswords over rapiers?

can anyone explain or point out what i am missing here?

Rapiers are better. The +1 to hit is neat and all that ... but really you aren't having a lot of trouble hitting at end game. If it was +1 to hit and +2 to Damage then maybe it might be worth it... but probably not.

The reason I have characters that use Short Swords are twofold. 1. I like them 2. They are cheaper than rapiers.

So unless you have outside of mechanics reasons to use them stick with rapiers

I agree with Aesop, it's all about personal favor. Rapiers are good but right now they are the more expensive choice of the two. I can get most SS from the auction at a fraction of the cost of a rapier and more people seem to be willing to let them go in chests. Plus you get fun short swords like Treason to play with while you build out your Shroud items.

A rapier does a little over 10% more damage than a comparable shortsword but costs about 10x as much. It's hard to make the argument that you HAVE to go rapier as a piercing specialized character. I'd say if you can get some good shortswords, go for it. I have a lot of great rapiers on my evasion paladin but until I acquired them I was using shortswords in their place with no qualms.

Drow paladins can get an additional +1 to hit with shortswords if they take the Follower of Vulkoor enhancement. Not saying that is a selling point, just pointing it out.

Rapiers on the AH are more expensive but once you start crafting it costs the same to craft a rapier vs, a short sword. IMO if you are leveling and cant get or afford a rapier of choice then look for a short sword its the next best thing.

Rapier mainhand, short sword offhand.... at least thats what im doing
