Default DDOclient error and horrid lag

I have been playing for 3+ years, since launch and I have lag on occasion. Lately though, when I go into raids or quests my "Receive" goes up to around 20K and my game basically becomes unresponsive. I am also getting game crashes more and more with "DDOclient error" popping up when it does. It seems the more creatures are in the general area I am in, the worse the lag is. Shroud, Hound and many other raids or quests are near unplayable. This has all come about in the last month and I can not figure out why. I have disk cleaned, defragged, updated everything, ran all kinds of programs to see what could be going wrong but nothing comes up.

I could use some help figuiring this out so I can actually play the game. Here is my dxdiag info:

    Q,

i'm no computer genius by any stretch of the imagination, and i could completely be off the mark here, and i'm sure someone will step in if i am, but after checking three times now it appears you only have 1 gig of ram.....

that is NOT going to fly with DDO in its current state....a year ago or so, mebbe...at ddo's creation, probably...

now, with all that they've added, ddo is a two gig minimum, and more is definately better. i know what the minimum specs are, and you are playing at them. you are capable of playing the game, but just barely.

simply adding one gig of ram (if you are able) will immensely boost your playability. (its very cheap btw).

my second machine and my laptop both have two gig of ram, with an old-ish graphics card, and it hurts to play on those two machines. your numbers look very close to those two machines.

i'm no expert on graphics cards either, but i think yours has served its time, i looked quickly and the last update i could find for that card was for july of 08, (i think, i could have screwed that up too.)

again, just to put something on the board and i might be completely wrong, like i said, others i'm sure will chime in and may see something entirely different.

    fwiw,

Thanks for a response but I do not think it is my PC. This problem only started to appear just recently. I have been using this PC as is for the last 3+ years of play with no issue. Occasional lag once in a great while but nothing even close to what has happened lately.

Here is reason I do not think it is my PC that is the problem. I have been playing MOD 8 content perfectly fine since last year with the same set-up I have had for 3 years. My PC can not be stressed out from content I was playing perfectly for months with but only since I DLed and played on Lamannia did my problems pop up. There has been no updates or additional content that would make this new lag possible.

If there was new content that pushed my system to not be able to handle it, I would agree. But nothing new has been added to the game since MOD 8 which has been working fine this whole time. Until Lamannia was installed.

Also, this is not the normal lag I am talking about. It is focused on certian things or areas. Normally when I have lag, everthing from latency to send or recieve goes up some. This new lag only effects my Receive. Nothing else changes. It will be normal but when large numbers of monsters are close by then my Receive shoots straight up to 20K+. Something is not right there.

With the additional bonus of getting my game crashing to desktop randomly alot by something called DDOclient error. I have never had that error before.

Nvidia does have slightly more updated drivers for that card here. With MMO's there are always updates to the games graphics/audio systems so keeping drivers updated is recommended.

Unfortunately with an SBLive card you may not be able to find newer drivers but I'd still check with Creative just in case. There are newer drivers for the SBLives but I think they're Vista updates from MS not Creative I could be wrong though.

One other thing to test is to go into the DirectX configuration screen under sound lower the "Audio Hardware Accelleration" slider one notch and in-game if your using "Hardware" mode on the sound provider under the Audio section switch over to software. If the game is exceeding the card or its drivers ability to render sound that can cause stability issues.

I'd also try renaming your userpreferences.ini file (eg. olduserpreferences.ini) in your "My Documents" > "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder and relaunching the game to test. You'll have to re-do the settings in the options (resolution, graphics level etc) but doing that will "force" the game to redo a hardware/driver detect and reconfigure its base settings.

One last possibility is have you reinstalled at all recently? The game is updated and there's alot of read/writes going on with its files, if you haven't reinstalled recently it could be file corruption causing the crashing. (this is relatively common with MMO's where you have cases of "PlayerX" with the "Helm of suchnsuch" running by randomly and the game has to load alot of files here and there as you play not to mention when the game is updated/patched etc.)

You may want to run the uninstall from Add or Remove Programs option in the Control Panel and when the uninstaller completes delete the "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folders in "My Documents" (backup any screenshots you want to keep that are in there first) and the one in C:\Program Files\Turbine also before reinstalling. Use the pre-updated install here to reinstall with. (It's a big download but since the original DVD's were released in 2006 you'll save a lot of patching downtime using that).

If it keeps up definitely open a support ticket.

NOTE: The Customer Support forums are best for Player-to-Player help, for more direct and official support, please submit a ticket to the appropriate team via the form here.

    Thanks.

I did notice my video card driver was out of date and fixed that last night. I also checked my sound card driver but it is up to date, I used their driver detector program from their site and says it is good to go.

I already did the redo of the userpreference file awhile ago when I got some weird bug when in Lamannia. I removed it and had to reset everything in my normal game since Lamannia destroyed it. Even so, I was never able to get my settings "just right". 3 years of playing with my setting set perfectly, it is hard to set it exactly the same as before.

Anyways, I decided to just reinstall DDO since it has never been removed or uninstalled. It is the same as when I first installed in 3 years ago, with all the updates of course. Won't hurt to refresh it all. I usually do the same thing with my WinXP, to keep things fresh once in awhile.

    Here goes nothing.........=/

Unhappy Same problems here, plus 'hash code'

As soon as I played on Lama, DDO things went into a hand basket.
Lag and connection issues that other players (who did not play on Lama) do not have.
I'm trying various solutions, learning much about drivers and virus', and being very frustrated.
I would like to get a new download ... but now I'm getting a 'hash code' error!!!!

Never again will I run on the 'test server'.

I reinstalled and double checked all driver updates. Moved the slider sound accelerator down a notch and I still have the same issue. I get around too many mobs, mostly quests or raids past 10th level and it is the same strange lag. Send, latency, etc is showing normal numbers but the "Recieve" is shooting upwards to 20K+ Bps. Making the game near unplayable like that.

I do not understand why it is doing that or how to fix it.

I checked in optional panel. Troubleshooting has framerate and Engine Speed, would reducing those help keep my receive from shooting so high up like it does around mobs?

Wow! I thought I was the only one experiencing this problem. In the last month or so, raid areas have been virtually unplayable for me too. It lags only when mobs are present with the 12 players in the same area. Funny thing is, if I decide to move away from the group and take on lets say a mob or a portal in shroud by myself - no lag.

My lowbie toon gets no lag. I bought more RAM thinking this would help but no significant change -this did not improve it. Many told me to bring my graphics to low but this got worse. In fact it works better on very high or ultra high. Anyone got suggestions.

Well. I tried a few things but still get huge lag in raids and only when mobs are present. I got this problem only after the Lamania launch. My BPS for receiving jumped up to 17 K tonight in hound run. Anyone have the solution for this one? My graphic card and sound card are out of date but I never had an issue with it before. I will keep trying to find the solution but eventually my NVWN 2 game will replace DDO if I can't resolve it soon. Not fun to do the matrix while getting hit and dying

I haven't had much luck myself but I did go to settings in-game and turn down things some in the "Troublshooting" section. Moved the slider down to about 80 and engine speed to low. Still have it acting the same but seems not as bad as it use to be. Had a few good shroud runs where I hardly had any lag. It felt good to be able to fight again. lol
