After chatting on the forums with someone, an epiphany hit me. Why not change the payment option from $15 a month to .50 cents a day?

This way if you log in and get fed up with the Lag, or lack of content, or lack of players then you can skip a few months doing other things and check in again to see if things are better rather than canceling your account for a few months then popping back in. Which is the same thing we are doing already.

We keep our characters and gear so basically it is just an inconvenience for us to go through the hassle of opening and closing our accounts.

Why not just set it to .50 cents per day, that way we won’t feel like we are being ripped off and the developers will have plenty of time to fix the servers and move datacenters with us in the way.

“What? My logic is too strong?”
Did you mean to say too weak?

It would have to be $5/day. The billing costs would skyrocket for Turbine (cheaper to process less low dollar transactions) and since they wouldn't want to make less money they would have to charge more per day just to break even. In the end, your solution would cost everyone more. This of this as a gym membership, you pay by the month in most gyms even if you don't go every day.

But your suggestion would work equally as well.
So let's see...people complain development is too slow now. If we cut their revenue in half that would do what to the production cycle? That is if it even left them enough revenue to bother to run the game anymore....

Honestly folks, this is a business, not a charity. If you want them to stay in business they need to keep charging reasonable fees, either as a monthly fee or by going to microtransactions.

    Default already cheap

if you cannot afford the current charges, i do not know how you afford internet or electricity to play the game

irrespective of Turbine's incompetent or negligent development cycle of this game, this is still some of the cheapest entertainment options around, e.g., one ticket for Wolverine with snack bar this weekend equals more than a month of DDO

just quit the game or suspend account if you are tired of logging on

The cost would have to be severely increased, as it would represent a decrease in revenue for them.

If Turbine ever was to implement such a system, they would make sure to get more revenue out of it than they did previously. This would mean two things: the game would cost much more than $15 per month to heavy gamers and less than $15 per month to very casual gamers.

Obviously, this would cost them heavy gamers (who would migrate to less expensive subscription-based MMOs) but they would hope it would attract very casual gamers who think that $15 per month is too much for them and players playing multiple games at once).

I am not sure if that is a safe bet, to be honest.
