    Default The NFL Draft thread

Well some of you I know follow sports judging by the fantasy football leagues and bracketology that goes on. So how about a FRIENDLY, RESPECTFUL discussion about the NFL Draft and what you hope your team does and shocking things you want to see.

My teams are the Houston Texans and New England Patriots. I personally know Wes Welker and Sammy Morris from the Patriots so have to always root for my friends.

NE - definitely needs younger at linebacker, was a little shocked to see Vrabel in the Cassel deal, but I know it frees up money for them to play with this off season.

Texans - I don't want to see Beanie Wells here as did not think he always ran hard and played every down. I would prefer if they do a running back, Ringer from Michigan State. First pick should be defense, Maybin is the name I've heard the most for them

How about Falcons? Super Bowl chance now with Gonzalez, White and Ryan trio?

I'm ashamed to admit I'm a Browns fan and have been throughly disgusted with alot of the choices they have made since returning to the league.

I hope the #5 pick is used for defense, specifically a pass rusher. I would like to get Curry, but the chance of him being available at 5 is near 0.

Crabtree's interview in Cleveland was interesting in that he came out very positive about it, but the team's view was that Crabtree is very egocentric. One thing I don't want is a TO mentality.

I think the addition of Gonzo to the Falcons was a very smart move. Even though he is getting long in the tooth he gives Ryan a veteran go to guy and will reduce the number of run stacked defenses Turner sees. This move has the potential to make the Falcons much better.

I am interested to see how Ryan performs this year. I believe he is the real deal, but the second year for a QB can be very telling. If he has any tendencies a defense can exploit they will pick it up after watching last years film. Personally I think he will have a good season.

Gonzalez is good, but he won't make the difference between first round playoff appearance and Superbowl appearance. I think drafting some key defensive components will make more of a difference for them. I also think it's probable that Ryan has a sophomore slump like Big Ben had.

I personally follow the Washington Redskins, so as I'm sure you can imagine, I hate talking about the draft (well I like talking about it, I just hate the letdown afterwards).

The Texans are supposedly going with a DE. I see them going against the grain and picking up a DB myself, though.

If the Texans took Vontae Davis from Illinois, would that be a stretch?

As a Texas Tech grad and alumni I can tell you that Crabtree sometimes does sound egocentric, but it comes from him having unquestionable confidence in himself.

Panther fans.... Delhomme 5 more years? Really? Ouch.

I think you are over looking the fact that Gonzo is a huge threat to any defense. Why else is he always surrounded by defenders? He gets two and three manned all the time. That frees up other recievers for Ryan..... If Gonzo is on the field plays, often big plays, get made. Even if he is not the target.

the way i see Atlanta for this season is like this:

T Gonzo, going to help defenders play honest in regards to Rodney White. Add to that the running game that the Falcons have, Turner will be a beast again; Ryan wont be asked to do as much as Big Ben was during his second season. I do believe Ryan's numbers will take a hit, just because now people have 17 games of film on him, but that guy has moxey and is going to be huge for that city.

i wont say they are SB bound, but I do see the road to the SB taking detours to Atlanta a lot. They will win that division, NO still has no defense, TB no QB, and Carolina... well think their window is closed.

Not at all. I love watching Gonzo play. He's great for sure, I just don't think he can push them over the edge by himself.

I think he can, besides his athletic ability, he is also one of the greatest motivators in the game, both on and off the field.

He truly deserves a SB ring. Personally I believe he will play two more seasons then retire ring or no. I just hope his induction in the HoF is as a Chief

Don't be ashamed for supporting a team in their down time(Browns)
it shows that you're true fan. As a Raider fan, ...... well we got a lot
of work ahead, will probably end up with another WR. Would be much
happier shoring up the O line, but the Raiders rarely draft well.

    Cheers

Tony will be introduced at the Hall of Fame as a Chief. Interview with him after the trade announcement, it will be like Brett Favre who will always been a Packer.

Browns..... Really going to trade out of that pick and get rid of Brady Quinn?

Now if the Chief could just trade Larry (I Don't Block) Johnson, draft a RB with heart, find an athletic replacement for Jared Allen (that loss really hurt) and then work on shoring up the defense, we just might be the most improved team this season

Good news Doom: Tom Cable agrees with you. He wants which ever tackle falls into 7th.

Bad news Doom: Al Davis loves Jermey Macklin's speed.

absolutely right on though, don't be ashamed of who you support just because they are losing. i have been a KC Royals fan since 1984, unfortunately haven't been rewarded much since.

So IF the Lions can't sign Stafford and really do draft Curry instead, which goes first Stafford or Sanchez?

I heard a rumor that KC was interested in Jeremy Macklin also. I am afraid that he would end up special teams though.

Chiefs should...... draft Curry, trade but not be greedy, 3rd and 6th or 4th and 7th should be enough if they require 2 picks. Draft in second round Ringer or Greene.

trouble is Macklin has injury issues, always had, drops lot of passes and route running is very shotty. KC needs OT or defensive help before they worry about WR.

don't know akla, never was sold that Morano was all that. Never played hurt. Texans need a back that can pound to compliment Slaton. Don't think i'll be able to pick Slaton with the 10th round pick this year .

My hopes are Ringer or Brown from Connecticut.

As a Bronco fan, I'm happy to see Gonzalez out of the AFC West. He'll be a big help for the Falcons.

Even though McHoody has ditched our QB, I don't want to see Denver use a first round pick on one. I don't think any of them are worth it. Denver needs help to move to the 3 - 4. I'm hoping for B.J. Raji or Tyson Jackson, but it seems unlikely. So with our two picks I'm hoping we can get them out of Orakpo, Curry, Maualuga, Cushing, or Peria Jerry.
