I know you are tryint to help but you can't really prevent anyone from being stupid,yes you can try to explain why the thing they want to do is not smart at all but that doesn't mean it will stop them.

I see it as opening the door to a stalkfest, unless people are extremely careful what they post, which they should be anyway.

Some people are so trusting, even now, with everything we know about how dangerous it can be to post personal information. But I see people posting their photos, their real names, where they live, where they go to school or work.

Information security does not necessarily translate to the need for complete anonymity online. A few pictures and knowledge of your town won't help someone steal your information, all they need is something identifying - name, SS#, etc. The best protection is vigilant monitoring of your own information and who you give it to.

Physical security is a bit different. I post lots of pictures online that could be used - at least in part - to identify where I live. But I don't worry a bit. If you can get through two 80-lb dogs and two fully armed people, you deserve to have my stuff

Particularly irksome to me is anyone who bullies women (or children or animals, for that matter), as many of you already know. Similarly, anyone who harasses women is someone I would consider a bully.

Threatening to post pictures of someone here because a bully believes she would be regarded as unattractive by the general population of Khyber (and abruptly made unpopular, thereby) is an empty threat and I've urged her to ignore the threats and to report any harassment to the administrators of the sites she referenced to me.

What impact would the appearance of an active player here have on your impression of them as a player? Please indicate that you, like me, cannot be affected in your opinion of other players based on their picture(s), if someone were to post unflattering real life pictures of a prominent player. This is not really her concern. Her concern is for the harassment.

A little context:

While the Turbine servers were down, some who had active Facebook memberships received periodic updates from Turbine on a page, there. Among the waiting players was a friend of mine whose character names someone guessed and posted, late in the day.

Someone else following that thread has used his Facebook Account to copy pictures from Facebook of my friend and has threatened to post them here, if she won't unBlock him (he used a friend's account to send this message to her). She placed that Block on his messages to her on that first day, when she was made uncomfortable by his messages to her.

I've told this friend that neither Facebook nor Turbine would allow her to be harassed, but she remains worried. Please reassure my friend.

this peson should compile any and all records of any and all communication from this person that is directed towards her, or said about her by said individual. this information should be stored as acuratly as possible with dates and times along with the format it was given in (email, facebook, instant message, ect). all this information should be printed out and a police report filed with local police. chances are, local police will disregard the claim, at witch point the local district attorney should be contacted. the district attorney can supena isp information and track down this individual that is attemting to extort her via cyberbulling. in no way, shape, or form, should you try to address this problem without professional assistance. cease all interaction with this individual and ignore them, while feeding all relevent information to law enforcment. if you dont think its that seriouse, then turn on the news. some lady that was killed from a contact on craigslist is a top story for today.
