Default Help my game still wont work

Since the new Update last Monday I haven’t been able to get DDO to work at all. I get one of two messages:

    The default data center
    https://gls.ddo.com/GLS.DataCenetrServer. Asmx is not available.

The second message happens when I can get the loading menu that allows me to put my user name and password.

    Login Server Error

The following web occurred while trying to access
    https://gls.ddo.com/GLS.AuthServer/Service.asmx

The underlying connection was closed. Unable to connect to the remote server.

The advice given to me by Turbine Tech service

“Please make sure that the files “dndclient.exe” and “turbinelauncher.exe” are being allowed full inbound/outbound access to the internet by your firewall. Sometimes you need to refresh the firewall manually by removing and re-adding these files from its list of allowed programs or exceptions and re-adding them.”

    What is a firewall?

A firewall is a program or a set of related programs, located at a network gateway that protects the resources of a private network from external users or restricts and monitors the use of a service.

There are two files (three for Windows Vista) that need to have full permission to connect to the internet in your systems firewall. These files are as follows and are located in the folder C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online by default: '
    “dndclient.exe”
    “turbinelauncher.exe”
    “turbineinvoker.exe” (On Windows Vista)
Occasionally after a patch or update to the game, you may be required to remove and re-add these files manually to your firewall to refresh its permissions. Please see the steps outlined below to add these files to the Windows Firewall’s exceptions / outbound rules list:

    Windows XP SP1

If you only have Windows XP SP1 please upgrade to Windows XP SP2. You can do so HERE.

    Windows XP SP2
Click on “Start” then “Control Panel”
Click on “Security Center” and then “Windows Firewall”
When the Windows Firewall Configuration screen opens, ensure that the radio button is set to On (recommended) and that there is no check in the box that says 'Don't allow exceptions' before continuing.
    Click the Exceptions tab
Click on the Add Programs Button
    Click on the Browse button
Use the Browse window to open the folder C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online)
Look for and click on the “dndclient.exe” file and then click the Open button
    Click Ok
Click the Add Program Button again
Click the file named “turbinelauncher.exe” and then click Open again.
    Click Ok twice
For assistance with configuring your non-Windows based software firewall, please contact the manufacturer. We have listed some of the major software firewall providers below for your convenience.

I can not find this file/folder C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online)
I cannot find “dndclient.exe” nor “turbinelauncher.exe” but I have found dndclient and turbinelauncher just not the exe files. I put them in the exceptions . Still no luck getting the game to work (same message as before).

I have tried starting the game with my firewall disabled. Still no luck. So I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. After it down loaded some of (or all the patches) it Still wont let the game work. Same messages as before:

    The default data center
    https://gls.ddo.com/GLS.DataCenetrServer. Asmx is not available.

I am at a lost what to do, I’m am not very computer savvy . So if you have any suggestions please spell them out for me

One thing that might help would be to show file extensions in that folder.

    Go back to this folder

    C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online

Under Tools or View at top of window you will see an option called 'Folder Options'.
Once you are in there look for tab at the top called 'view'.

Look for a box in the list below called 'Hide extensions for known file types'.
Make sure that box is unchecked. Apply and OK at bottom if you made a change.

Can restore back to hiding extensions after if you would like.

At that point can try to add those file's to the firewall again.

did you try to restore your comp bak to a time when you could log into ddo and see if that gets you bak in you can always reset to present if it does not. My system was all buggy after the lamannia downloader atempt I had to do a restore to get my ddo to work for me after 3 attempts to install lamannia , so might be worth a try for you .

    My suggestions:

    1) You mention disabling your firewall. You don't mention whether it's a hardware firewall (router) or software firewall. Since you just upgraded to SP2, Microsoft has probably re-enabled their software firewall, this may be preventing you from connecting.

    2) DDO uses the internet settings from Internet Explorer, not from your default browser. Go check those settings (open IE, tools->options->connection settings->lan settings).

    3) As a test, bypass your router altogether by plugging your computer directly into the cable modem. If you can then connect to DDO, you know that the router settings are the problem.

Be sure to let us know what fixes the problem once you figure it out. And keep posting if you can't get it fixed, lots of people watch assistance threads!

    Default Router Fix

If you followed the instructions to "point" your router to the address given, after disabling DHCP, undo it. Re-enable DHCP (be sure you re-enter the number of PCs) and remove the "port forwarding". That fixed it for me; I'd killed DDO installations on 2 pcs. I'd like to see the new stuff, but not unless there's a way to install Lamannia without using the TDM. Good luck.

ok I'm not using a router, I just have the cable modem and all that tech talk is alien to me about what to do with routers. I tried to restore my computer to a different time before the update a dozen times, of different dates I tried. each time it said cannot restore my computer (I have no idea why or how). I'm at a tremendous loss what to do but looks like m 2 1/2 half years here is done. I don't know what else to do, my 6 months subscription is up in less than a month. I'm not going to pay to use a game I cant play. As I've stated before I'm not very computer knowledgeable

Try to copy / paste the line listed below.

    C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online

Now go to Start/Run - and in the field make sure to paste that information.

Or can try to go to Start/My Computer
    Look for Local Disk (C
once you open the local disk, try to find the right folder (program files)
if you find program files look for (Turbine), etc.

Alternatively when you go to the actual firewall settings as per Turbines instructions, as a test can set fireall to OFF not recommended. Would want to turn it back on soon after, but it would test to see if issue is caused by windows firewall.
