Default Feeding the hounds. . .

It's reasonable to assume that people will have interpersonal disagreements and personality conflicts in this game, as they have everywhere else in this world. I am not unreasonable in my expectations of other people's behavior. If someone feels compelled to make their token finger-in-the-eye remarks toward someone they personally find objectionable or with whom they have a grudge, I'm willing to be tolerant, initially.

When that token hostility is met calmly, without in-kind insults or any other kind of encouragement, it's time to make allowances of your own and move on. If you instead proceed to question their honesty, integrity, and the masculinity and sexual preferences of her husband in a public manner, I am personally under no compulsion to listen further.

I'm an easygoing guy. I follow my own experiences in dealing with other people and make my own judgments late about their behavior, if at all. What I do not have to do is watch the insecurities of other men psychologically expressed by their bullying of women. Lack of self-awareness and small wit is the only excuse for it.

Screen shot too for validation of the said egregious invalidation.

    Mithran,
I would guess you and I are of similar mindsets and general tolerance of all lifestyles and peoples, however the game is open to everyone and not all people live where tolerance is fully embraced. I find that most people given the opportunity to interact with those they feel uncomforable with or don't understand, can become more understanding by good example rather than confrontation. I would say the best, although not the easiest, is to not respond to the behavior or comments that you find offensive, quietly note the origins and group accordingly if need be. Also, being supportive of the target of negative attention, can help a lot. The bottom line is everyone has a right to play and choose the types of groups they prefer. There are a rare few with whom I will not knowingly group with, but very few and I don't begrudge them the right to play or think the way they do. I just stay away from them. Live and let live. You are doing the right thing.

Amidst the insults, I sent her a /tell:

/t Aussie I'm sorry about this
/* tells you Sorry about what?

Her mature handling of the episode made me even angrier. I guess I've had all the abuse I can tolerate in this life and don't like to see my friends exposed to it, either.

    Default Re: NYC

My father grew up in Queens. His father worked construction at the World Trade Center, so I had a tour of the unfinished upper floors before they were completed on the second tower, back when I was seven years old. Most of my extended family lives in upstate NY, with another good portion being in the city, itself. My mother's father's family is from New England (from 1630).

I moved here to Northern Virginia from downtown San Francisco, but Virginia is my ninth state in which to hold residence (NY PA WV AZ AR TX NM CA VA, which extended stays in NJ and FL). My father's father and his siblings convinced me long ago that New York City is, as you said, the best city in the world, and they never understood how anyone could live anywhere else.

I don't have anything against NYC residents for living there, but that kind of proximity to that many people can lead to an insensitivity that I wouldn't care to partake of.

Well, looks like the "sophisticated culture" hasn't done so much for you, so I doubt we're missing much.

But its always funny to see "enlightened" folk like you refer to rural whites as rednecks. Not much different than calling peeps *******. You're so classy!

Thanks! I find it funny that you don't see any difference between those two words. You've just added to my argument. What swamp do you live in? Classy...LOL

Oh there's a difference - one is a bigoted stereotype aimed at blacks, the other is a bigoted stereotype aimed at whites [originated as a slur against imigrant sharecroppers].

You can argue that one is more offensive than the other, but it still makes you an ignorant bigot.

You're "sophisticated" enough to catch the irony? You ignorantly use bigoted stereotypes to paint rural folk as ignorant bigots.

    Mote. Eye. All that.

What swamp do you live in?
