Default New Compendium Features for Mod 9!

We've been hard at work in the DDO Compendium making improvements for Module 9! Here is a look at some of the changes coming!

    New Look!

The Compendium will have a new look with a dark background. Official and player entries will look more similar. You can see an example of the new look in the images throughout this post.

    Expanded Feat and Enhancement Information

The archvists of the Twelve continue to expand details in the Compendium!
    • The Enhancements section in class articles now display links to to other feats/enhancements that are granted when you take the enhancement.
    • Feat articles now list any prerequisites required to take the feat.
    • Sub-feats, e.g., weapon proficiencies, are rolled up nicely into one article now. This extends to class and race articles; the class will only list the particular sub-feats you get. e.g., Drow Elves list only the Shuriken for the exotic weapon proficiency feat.
    • Feats and Enhancements have been appropriately separated into their respective categories.

    Standard Search Auto-Complete Feature

If you're trying to find something in the Compendium using standard search, the auto-complete feature can help! Just type in three or more letters, and a list of possible matches in the official content will appear. Selecting a match will forward you to the appropriate article or advanced search result page.

Quest, Raid, Story Arch & Adventure Area Info!

The Compendium archivists are pleased to finally show their first illuminations of Story Arcs, Quests, and Adventure_Areas in the Compendium. This is just the beginning of the work, but they are pleased with the first fruits of their efforts....

Story Arcs list the various chapters in the arc; each chapter will list the goals necessary to complete the chapter. Goals will link to the quest or NPC you must interact with.

Adventure Areas list the rare encounters available, exploration points to be found, and slayer deeds to be had.

Quests list the max group size, any patron you gain favor with, the duration, and a table of the base XP gained for each difficulty level available. It will also list the main objectives necessary to complete the quest along with any optional objectives available. The optional objectives list the % of base XP bonus given upon completion.

You can also continue to add any other helpful tidbits, quest facts, or other information as a player entry that will apear immediately below the official quest entry. Your entry is separated by one separator bar that indicates it is a player entry, but in color, style, and placement, it looks the same as the official entry!

To complement the new Quest articles, we've added Quests to the advanced search! You can search for quests by name, level, group size, type, and more!

    NPC Info!

Archivists have also taken a first pass at adding NPCs. Vendor NPC articles are the most useful at the moment. You can see information such as what items the vendor sells, and use your mouse to click through to the full item description, or view it in a small pop-up when you mouse over the icon! We will be continuing to expand the information available about the NPCs in the future!

    Favor Info!

You can also browse the list of Patrons and learn how much favor you must curry from them to get that elusive title and rank. Quests also include a link over to the appropriate Favor associated with the quest.

    Parsers

Our resident archiver of the Twelve had this to say:
Some people have been asking for the MediaWiki parser functions; sadly, we could find no reference to them in any of Stormreach's libraries. However, an unusual looking Warforged informed us that he has equipped the Compendium with these parsers. Perhaps you can make something out of them...
    New Glossary Feature

Still trying to get the hang of basic DDO game terminology? A glossary is now available in the Compendium! You can see the base definition of common DDO game related terms, and links are provided to any compendium articles that may relate to it (such as related items, abilities, feats, spells, etc).

We hope you will enjoy the new look, functionality, and features coming to the Compendium for Mod 9!

That's very nice indeed. Just hope there are enough quests in mod9 to keep me busy for a few months until mod10.

What's with the Cerulean Hills Slayer quest: Collect a lot of scraggly beards? Something else new?

Good question. I suspect Duwis took that shot back when we were still scrubbing for old left over back end comments in code that previously weren't visible in game, but the Compendium can see and post out. We'll keep my eye out for scraggly beards or other oddities showing up prior to the Compendium update.

By the way, since you used the Compendium to host these you spoiled the surprises to me before you posted the thread.

Interesting that you do not follow the terminology used in your own game.

Copycats! It's very good to have that in the official source.

Will it be accessible from in-game (or at least advertised)? It should be. The learning curve to DDO is quite steep.

Yeah with the web issues I wasn't able to load up my images normally, so I had to make a b-line so I could get the thread out ^^

Heh this one was a case of Duwis finding things in the game data that could be made use of. It takes the basic glossary that is available with a / command in game, and expands the usage with the linking etc in the Compendium.

That's a goal, but it's currently not set up to work that way...yet.

We will not keep your eye out. We will put it back in. You deserve two eyes. Don't be so hard on yourself!

    Default Cool

Yugoloth inhabit the Plain of Shavarath. Maybe we are working with them more than the few foxes suggested. Neat twist.

We players often call them "quests" what you, in-game, call "adventure".

"Quests", in-game, refer to what you have named "story arch" as evidenced by the fact that the information contained in the "Story Arch:" pages will be extracted from the "Quest Journal" (which your progression through the "quest" - which may span through multiple "adventure"). I don't disagree with the decision, as it's less confusing for the players if you adapt to their lexicon but I thought it was worth noting.

If you think that's nutty, just try and figure out what we call places like cerulean, thernal, 3bc, and waterworks

    I'll take a few try:
    • Wilderness Adventure Areas?
    • WoW-like zones?
    • Killing-lots-of-stuff zones?
    • We-like-to-make-you-run-to-quests zones?
    • Outside areas?
    • Take #2?
    • Free XP xones?

    Am I any close?

PS: I edited the post you replied to meanwhile.
