Unfortunately Q I feel like this game has been on a downward slope since mod 4. I don't pretend to know what happened on the development end and I am reasonably sure the lack of quality content, the non-existant customer service, the lag, the server problems, the silence from the company is due to funding and idiot upper management rather than the current crop of Dev/IT/Moderator but, taking all that in, my vote would have gone to Valve and now Nintendo

Ultimately all MMO's are dead ends.
This game will not be here in ten years and I feel like we might just be seeing the end.
Please don't misunderstand my frustration.
I want it to succeed. I think a complacent attitude is what will sink it.
I have loved this game since release but, I think we care about it more than they do.
I am not talking about Tolero and the like I mean the decision makers. I think LOTRO was the start of the end for DDO. It took the companies focus and funding away.
The original game is what lured me, the community what keeps me.
I was a big pen and paper guy and I think if this game was just some knock off called something else it wouldn't get the loyalty it gets.
The $15 monthly is insignificant to me, the downtime, lag, lack of new content, broken promises, missed deadlines, customer service is not.
Heres a fun thing to try for ya...try buying a game card for someone else online it's an absolute exercise in frustration.

MMOs are ultimately social networks, and since DDO began I've gotten tons of fun out of this one. I like the realtime action combat mechanics/free updates etc.
I especially like that DDO attracts a slightly older playerbase than other MMOs. On the whole, I think the updates have contained a wide enough mix of content to make me happy in some way or another. I still have lots to do on a lot of characters, so I'm not sitting around not needing stuff on main characters etc. There's still tons of stuff I need to craft, raid for, and work to be done on lowbies etc.
The Nintendo game most likely to be able to compete with DDO in terms of making a social network might be Animal Crossing (which I have and like tons - I'm pretty girly ). The guys in my guild told me that they were "horribly damaged" from what they saw of Animal Crossing on YouTube, so I suppose it wouldn't be much of a draw for guys in general.
In terms of creating a social venue that appeals to more mature players, Turbine gets my vote in the coming round of the Escapist Magazine competition.
