    Default Why Sacred?

I'm about to ditch my chainmail coif for something better. But just to confrim:

If you don't bother with turning undead, there's no need for the +2 lvl bonus to turn checks, ie. the +2 does not figure into anything else?

Sacred is only used for Turning Undead.

Even if you do bother with turn undead, the +2 still doesn't matter. That ability couldn't get any less useless no matter how many modifiers you added.

Disagree with this characterization. Unless your expectations are out of whack with how it actually works in D&D, turning in DDO mimics D&D very accurately. The sacred bonus helps, but if you have some of the higher end cleric raid items, those would overwrite the benefits of the "mere" sacred bonus.

The perceived problem is due to the fact that many of the undead you face have lots of Hit Dice. But with the right gear, spells, feats and enhancements one can turn undead effectively. What is true is that at high levels clerics cannot destroy undead simply due to the hit die limits. It can be argued that merely turning the undead still means you have to defeat them later, which is obviously true, but just like other forms of CC (many of which do not work on undead), being able to control the size of the mobs encountered can be useful. (Take your average wizard and take away all their items, feats and enhancments and see how effective walls of fire would be without boosts. Pretty pathethic generally. That is how turning is often compared, naked vs a fully prepped direct damage caster.)

Turn undead sucks in pen and paper, too.

True, but the fact that my Cleric chooses to run around with a Halt Undead clickie [Arcane 3rd] instead of using turning says alot.

/edit: just threw the Chainmail Coif on the Thelanis AH at base price, if any midlevel Clerics are looking for the superior dev3.

Hi I personally have a undead hunter cleric that I hardly ever fail with even on elite modes of the game.
With anything in ddo there are sacrifices you have to make for certain build sets and unfortunately wisdom will be one of them to crank up your charisma and wisdom to 30 apiece with the greensteel you can gain some of the spell points back but ultimately as what this game is for is viable play for whatever class anyway you would like and it still work its all about your imagination.
I love turning those undead giants and when dracolichs come out I am wondering if i will be able to hit that mark as well.
Like I said have fun with how you wanna play your character an undead hunting priest is very viable
Yes I am insane whats it to you

Despite all the nay sayers......turn undead works.
But I'll admit it take some serious feats/enhancements/cha/items....etc. to get much out of it.
And even then.....we have two real big problems(maybe three)

Leashes. The two most useful places in the game for turning are outdoor areas....and in every case the undead run run run to the end of their leash....and pop back completely unturned.

    The annoying combat buffer.
I've been lightning bolted to death in the Orchard, beated to death in the subterrain...
Only to watch undead then run in fear from my ghost.

Third problem is when you chase a wraith off into a wall and a door somewhere will not open till he comes back and lets you kill him.
I gave up a life of farming to become an Adventurer.
