    Default Need reliable build

I am in the process of starting a cleric build to duo with my 10 year old son. He will play a fighter type, so I am sure I will need to be 90% healbot. 32 point builds are active on my main account.

I got bored with my first cleric at level 12, so I will need to be able to do more than just heal.

Any suggestions on making a fun cleric that will be able to heal as well as provide some offensive support when necessary?

    Thanks.

Offensive spell casting or toe-to-toe offense?

First off... great forum name (that's from the SNL celebrity jeopardy right?)

Second, if you're going to be duoing with your son, you'll want some offensive power too...

I duo with my son as well, and I've found that a paladin's lay on hands, plus wands is enough to keep us going (as long we always do quests at or below our level).

In your situation, I would just build a cleric with a 16 STR and a 16 WIS, a decent CON, and go from there... Maybe splash one level of paladin or fighter to get access to martial weapons... You'll be able to fight just fine, and you'll have all the healing power...

With only two people, offensive spell-casting would be a mistake... I would recommend being able to swing a big axe effectively...

    Default Wow!

Thanks for the quick responses. I was thinking fighting alongside of him and healing between battles. For some reason, I have always made clerics dwarfs, but was considering halfling for the dragon marks.

(Yeah, the forum name is from the SNL skit)

    lol

wut? ya, those greater commands, blade barriers and comet falls are way less effective than a great ax.

anyways op, this is a solid cleric build, with or without the pally splash:

there are plenty on the forums but i think those feats are the best for a straight cleric.

Heh, those spells don't come along for a while.... Getting to 11th level with just a pure healbot cleric and a fighter might be a bit tough... He's going to have to use a weapon during those lower levels...

And any cleric can use blade-barrier effectively... Only the commands, sonic-blasts, etc, require a high wisdom...

heavy maces, morning stars, etc. very underrated imo. not uber dps but they work.
one good lvl 8 weapon for a pure cleric:

another option is taking great ax proficiency, staying pure class to maximize offensive spell and healing capability, and swap out the feat later if you decide to splash.

you could also go multi utility and go rogue splash with your cleric to handle the locks and traps when duoing. Even a Bard splash Sorc might not be too bad for umd heal scroll use and no-fail heal wands ability and pick up knock as one of your spells (self-hasting is a plus too but you figure you can bring a haste-bot/henchman with you as well).

This is my main build. It's totally dominant, and would be great for a duo setup with a fighter (especially if the fighter has intimidate so that you get your halfling backstab damage on every hit).
