Default Abbot Loot - Deific Diadem Change

    Okay...

So my guild finally scores a straight up (no exploit) victory on the Abbot and my caster scores the only loot drop - a DEIFIC DIADEM!

The stats on this item are Wis+5, Int+5 and Lesser Heighten. Sounds like something that would benefit a caster ... right? Wrong! The stats are okay but, the lesser heighten ... frankly ... is kind of useless.

The description on lesser heighten says, "Lesser Heighten allows spellcasters to use the Metamagic Height at no additionaly SP cost. This effect lasts for 4 seconds."

There are three clickies of this. So in essence, you get to save 15 SP if you are quick enough to hit the spell after you hit the clickie. Not even worth the trouble really.

Now, since this is not just complaint, let me make a reasonable suggestion to improve this item and make it worthy of the challenge completing the Abbot requires....

MY SUGGESTION: Make it a one time clicky with a 5 minute duration or a 3 time click with a 2 minute duration. I imagine this would be a simple adjustment to the loot table, but make the item very useful, farmable and such.

The only thing I can say about the item as it stands is that it looks really cool on my WF Wizzy!!! Does anyone recall Voltron???

hi, grats, litany of the dead, the emerald claw turnin helm, noxious embers all suffer from this; abbot sp reduction clickies are useless.

I'm sorry you pulled bad loot; however, all the people who've ever pulled bereavement suggest that that has to happen sometimes.

I am not worried so much about my bad loot pull. Believe you me when I say I am used to pulling bad lootz! It is a way of life for me more often than not! This is not so much a complaint as it is a suggestion, which is the point of this forum. They need to improve it, as it is something that is really useless in a practical sense.

Agreed - these minuscule duration clickies are a waste of time, even when the effect is pretty awesome.

The Titanic Docent has a 15-second effect that I hope to find a good use for someday...

The magic item must be evaluated while remembering that not every caster actually knows Heighten. That's not enough to make it a good loot, but it does increase the potential value.

Anyway, there was relevant commentary on loot fixes back when the latest Abbot fix was announced. Multiple Abbot items have a feature to give you temporary free metamagic (or other casting bonus like "Turn The Page"), and they all could use a fix.

I am the king of bad lootz. I have proof that they gear up the tables when your character is created. Also, there is a specific window for your character once or twice a year when the tables are either reset or increased for a brief period of time. When that time happens, run the heck out of things to pull the uber lootz while you can. I've seen it happen a few times on my characters. Just recently I had a week's period where I got +2 tome rewards and +2 tomes in chests and after that period, nothing but vendor trash. It's a conspiracy I tell you.

Nice call bro... forgot about that post.

I was thinking in terms of something that was quick and relatively painless for the DEVs to do. I mean, I am not a game programmer, but I imagine to accomplish the fix I suggest, it is a simple change a variable in the loot table kinda thing. It doesn't require redesigning anything. It shouldn't eat up massive QA cycles. The only issue I could see is the retroactive aspect.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I have always been calling them out for fixing the duration of abbot clicky timers. You can check my posts and a good quater be asking them to fix it!
I am the poster child for this fix

Bereavement isn't too horrendous now that seeker adds to crit damage...

I agree the clickie is too short to be worthwhile, but your suggestion might be a bit much. Maybe split the difference, a single 2 or 3 minute duration.

Why have a short duration at all? Instead of a duration (or in addition to a lengthy one), let the effect be single-use. That is... click the item, get a buff icon. Next spell you cast (which is eligible for the effect) is granted the effect and the buff is consumed. Not only does that avoid problems such as lag leading to the click disappearing, it gives the developers much finer control over the benefits bestowed by the click.
