look, no one else was betting. there was 2 months since the last bet.
Goldeneye won by default.
was there something else I should have done?
I obviously haven't done this to rip anyone off, I'm just unaware as to what I should have done.
By the way, Strakeln, don't threaten me. I've been VERY grateful to have you (in particular) and many others as a friend here in DDO. For you to fly off and assume that I've intentionally rip people off, hurts me. Sure I may be a little uptight here on the forums, but almost everyone who knows me in game, knows that I mean nothing but happy times and good fortune to those in DDO. So instead of coming at me with a flyswatter, pose to me your advice in a way that makes this right? I would think you, among a few other big names in the game, know me for who I am, an imperfect fellow who obviously doesn't know what he's doing, and yet tried to make light of a situation. I've already apologized and yet I am still unbeknowest of what should be done?
Should I: open up again for no one else to bet, then give goldeneye his money when the mod finally relases? Help me out a little bro.
-Rob
Lots of people gave you advice regarding the faults of your betting pool. Eventually most just gave up and decided to play, faults and all.
But where you really screwed up was changing the rules. People bet their money assuming that the rules were static, that they wouldn't change based on bettor behavior.
When you started this pool, Mod 9 seemed fairly likely to be around the corner. Shortly after you started it, Turbine opened up Lammania and gave indications that there would at least be another round of updates to that server before mod 9 was released. So it obviously made no sense to place any more bets until Lammania was again updated... which it still hasn't been.
The point is, because of your screwy ruleset, the best way to play this pool was to wait until the final hour (post-2nd Lammania release) to bet. And the capability to do this was explicitly declared in your ruleset (note the parts I quoted in my previous post). Until you decided to change the rules mid-game. You made the rules, Rob... the participants expect you to follow them.
Do an online search of "Gambling Etiquette" and see what rule #1 is at most results: "Know the rules". Note how no one even considers the possibility of the house changing rules mid-stream.
Since you inquire as to what I think you should do now: give Goldeneye the money and refrain from running something like this again. There's no going back and correcting this... for one, it would be unfair to Goldeneye, and it would also be pretty pointless as the few who didn't know the optimal betting strategy certainly do now.
I appreciate your following through on my questions.
I took almost all the advice Tack and you gave (from what I could decipher) and ran with what I thought was the correct solution. Unfortunately I've still found a way to run myself into a hole. For that I apologize to those who have participated. I did not know that there would be more updates on the Lamannia server, as the last I read was that sometime after the test server came down, mod9 would be out.
As I said...never sees the light of day!

You sound jaded. I actually feel sorry for you dude.
Hopefully mod 9 will be out soon and you'll start to enjoy the game again.
