Sorcerer needs to cycle fireball and lighting bolt (two different enchament lines). Wizard need to cycle ball lightning, lightning bolt, fireball and CoC (again two different lines). So it is not anyway different. Only difference is in lore items, where wizard need 3 and sorceror 2 (which is still possible)

Lvl 9 sorcerors dont have CoC and scorching ray does little less base damage (and lot less if we take account that it is only usefull against single target). Depending how AP point is used, Scorching ray might do more against single target than lighting bolt (it only costs 3 AP to get 20% increase in one enchament line and lvl 9 30% increase is max you can have, so you can have both enchament lines if you want to).

On this discussion I have to say i play wizards. (power thing like all the spells). As far as dps goes yes if a sorc had same cast time as a wizard they would have the exact same dps. But due to the faster cast time higher spell pool the sorc will always out dps the wizard. But with wizards they have a chance to take more feats like spell schools and can insta death better then the sorcs if you put it all together. Not saying that sorcs can't spec that way but limited feats make it harder to spec for dps and insta death or even enchantment if you want to be a cc caster. My wizard is specced necromancy. I don't try to out dps a sorc i know it won't happen due to cast times but i cast a mean FOD . Wail of the Banshee FTW in mod 9.
If you read whole thread you will see that this is not true all cases. Sorceror like wizard cannot cast faster than 1 spell per second. Even if sorceror use quicken. They still cast max 1 spell per second (they cast faster but then they will just wait longer to that 1 sec cooldown to go away). Sorceror will always have more mana tought and can dps (or or cast instakill spells, etc) much longer.
This whole line of assumption that because of sustained DPS over greater SP is only valid unitl the Wiz achieves 1500+ spell points.
At that point it no longer matters how many SP's the sorc has, i have never seen a mob, inluding a raid, make it past about 1400 sp
granted not all wizards can achieve 1500+, but if they are level 16 chances they are over that bench mark
with a top end .2 casting differential, and an identical cool down there is litterly no real difference, except for the sorcs limited arsenal
I would much rather have a wizard in any raid to debuff the monsters since DPS is left to the melees for the most part, the casters are just the finnishers, in regular missions the wizard proves way more useful, since he brings the full compliment of buffs debuffs and offense
I have watched so many sorcs cast the same spell 4 spells, and watched the party later wipe when the sorc could not break the log jam when a wizard could..
Most people just suck playing the wizard, it reall has little to do with any real game based fact
