    what?

    6 straight damage
    +3 str
    30% haste boost
AND easily multiclassed for nice benefits

    vs

    10 STR
    -3/+3 PA
    +2 crit range

barb can currently only multiclass 2 lvls w/o losing a rank of crit rage; a tempest fighter can rock the socks off the stats for a pure or multiclass barb

and even pure, the barb isnt that much ahead, and not ahead at all when the monster is crit immune

Its part of the great plan of the devs to nerf Barbs until nobody wants them in their party. First rangers and rogues were given more DPS, now it looks like every other class will be given more DPS than barbarians.

I'll start out by saying my barb will be the fastest switch pulling, door opening toon in any party in mod 9 - now can I get an invite?
Thanks for the long time forum user purge of Aug '10 (Sarcasm for those who don't get it)

Since barbs specialize in DPS with greatest sacrifices the only logical place for them to be is the number one place in both boosted and non-boosted situations. I haven't bothered reading the numbers posted in detail but it doesn't look that way.

A (normal) raging barb should be at the top in the DPS list for sustainable "generic" damage (i.e. not vs. favored enemy, evil outsiders and the like) and it should also be comfortably at the top for short term burst damage using frenzy. Anything else is just plain wrong. Obviously limited boosts should be excluded (smites, haste boosts and whatnot). The current problem is that limited boosts are mostly used for bosses or other important mobs because nobody cares about DPSing random trash mobs anymore. This hurts barbs a lot. If devs fulfill their promise about making DPS relevant again back in Mod 9, this might not be an issue.

Also, having said that, a quest full of favored enemies is very bad design altogether but that's another topic.

The barbarian's place in mod 9 will be "within 20 feet of the cleric".

    oh, how times have changed..

-my pure fighter has been descriminated against since mod 4
-my pure ranger was descriminated against until mod 6
-nobody understands how rogue or pali dps works, so they are still descriminated against (I expect pali hate to wane in mod 9 but rogue hate to be unchanged)

and now... will Barbarians be the new hated class? has the circle come around again to when barbs were just fighters in bad armor? Time will tell. I think we need to see how two hand fighting will play out, and what the mobs will be like that we face in mod 9.

So let me get this straight....
Fighters spend 5 feats and 25 AP for:
    +4/5 to hit
    +7/8 damage
    and 20 second haste boost

    Barbs spend 22 AP for:
    +2 to hit
    +8 damage
    and crit rage

Is it just me or is the fighter paying more for less benefit?

You speak as if Barbarians SHOULD be ahead of a dps spec'd fighter.....
The only problem is that barbs gain more from high levels, while fighters gain more from low levels. The power of a tempest fighter is the fault of tempest 1, not fighter 10.

and you make it sound like 5 feats are of any consequence on a fighter.

Barb gets rage and fighter gets feats

Don't even include crit rage - many of us that multiclassed saying "i'll get it later" and anyone rolling a new barb is out of luck there - so trying to compare classes by something soon to be in the grandfathered-only bin is meaningless.

Just tossing this out there, but why doesn't Turbine put in Scythes for THF barbs? I think a THF Scythe Barb with FB would probably have little to complain about.
